From the body beautiful to car beautiful

Car Scratch Repair, Bumper Scuff Fixing, Alloy Wheel Refurbishment. A tale of one man's love for motor cars and the career path changes it took him on.

Shiatsu practitioner, Mike Jeffers based in Swindon was using his healing skills to align peoples bodies. Now find him aligning car bodies, smoothing out paint scratches and refurbishing alloy wheels with his SMART repair skills. Why did he change direction? Is he making a success of his career change?

Changing Direction

Cars were always a first love with Mike. He gained an Automotive Engineering degree from Loughborough University in 1984 and planned to become a designer in the car industry. Bad timing though, the car industry went into doldrums and there were no jobs to be had. Not to be put down, he gained a Design Engineer job with Rolls Royce - not the car but the helicopter division. Still it was Engineering design.

Time moves on and everything is becoming computerised and the natural move into computer programming beckons. This also takes him into Swindon to work for Galileo until redundancy beckoned, when Galileo moved its operation to the States.

Alternative Therapist

Over the years Mike had gradually become interested in alternative therapies. He had graduated as a Shiatsu practitioner. He also took part in Rekki and Tai-Chi. He was very good at this bringing comfort to many people, however his interest in cars still tugged at him.

SMART repairs for cars

Four years ago, Mike decided to set up SMART car repair business, and has seen it grow into a successful business with a large proportion of repeat work. People are always amazed by the care and attention that he puts into his work. He lives up to his slogan "Our best work always goes unnoticed" that can be seen on his website www.trimlineswindon.co.uk. When he finishes, customers often have a problem to see where the repair was made.

4 steps to choosing a kit car project

So you are toying with the idea of building your own car from a kit. You have some basic mechanical skills and a standard toolkit. You even have a bundle of cash burning a hole in your pocket. But there are so many car styles to choose from, where do you even begin?

Well, you need to work through the four basic steps to choosing the right kit car for you and you can’t go wrong.

Step 1 Set A Budget
This is by far the most important step and one that you need to spend some time working through. Kit cars come in all budget ranges, from the Locost at just a few hundred dollars right up to serious sports cars like the Ultima, where the only limit to the cost is you.

So it is vital that you set a budget and stick to it. Even within a project there are so many little things that can eat up your cash if you let your enthusiasm run away with you. Shiny bits cost money!

Step 2 Select A Kit Car Style
To narrow down your search for the ideal car kit you will need to look at your driving style as well as the use to which you will put your completed car.

If you are looking to take your vehicle onto the racetrack then you can forget about building a classic tourer such as a Beauford.

However, if you love to blast along leafy country roads with the wind in your hair then a Cobra replica could be your ideal choice.

Step 3 Gather Information
Now you have a set budget and a specific car style in mind you now need to gather all the information you can in order to narrow your choices down to the last handful.

To do this, your first stop should be the manufacturers’ website. Here you will find all the cold, hard specifications you need to give you an idea of what the finished car will be like.

Then you need to dig a little deeper. Check out the Owners Club to see if there are any underlying problems with the manufacturer or assembly difficulties. Getting involved with the Owners Club is possibly the best investment of your time as they have already been down the path you are intending to take and can help you when things get tough.

Now you need to seek out as much information as you can from a wide variety of sources, such as forums, independent review websites and magazines. Don’t believe everything you read but let all this give you an overall view of the car and manufacturer.

Step 4 Visit The Factory
By now you should have a shortlist of 2-3 cars. It is time to hit the road and pay the factory a visit. Most kit manufacturers are small time operations, so it is essential that you call ahead of time to book an appointment.

Once at the factory you can get the chance to actually get behind the wheel! Not all factories have a test car sat around for you to inspect and they may call on the services of a previous car builder to offer their car for inspection.

If the factory is holding an Open Day sometime in the near future then make this a priority trip as you will generally see a variety of vehicles from a number of enthusiastic builders. This is where you can see the full potential of the kit car you are intending to build.

The only step you now need to take is to make your final decision and place your order with the factory.

The Trucker Talk and General Trucking Information

With truck talk, truck drivers generally warn each other about road hazards and safety issues. The term four wheeler refers to a regular sized vehicle on the road. They may want to let other drivers behind them know about a car on the side of the road ahead or other concerns. They also notify each other of cops by various terms - a smokey is a cop on the ground in a car, Evil Kinevil is one on a motorcycle, and a bear in the air is in reference to speed being monitored by aircraft.

If you see a truck moving without a trailer attached to it, truckers call this bobtailing. While it saves them of fuel mileage, it is a bumpy road without that trailer on the back to help smooth things out.

The truck talk that pertains to safety issues seems to be more standardized across the board. It is the terms that refer to other aspects out there that seem to come with the most variations associated with them.

Valuable skills you need to succeed in the trucking industry

Navigation is a large part of driving a semi truck as there are particular roads that can be used and those that can't. Truck drivers have to be able to read maps so they can find their destination. They also need to look for clearance information relating to bridges and bypasses to ensure their truck and trailer aren't too tall to fit under them.

Motivation is very helpful for truck drivers because it helps them to get their job done correctly. It can be too easy to turn off that alarm and go back to bed when you are tired, but knowing you have a delivery to make is going to help you get moving. Truck drivers also need to be motivated to take care of their own health needs so they can perform as best as possible out there.

It is useful if the truck driver has a basic understanding of how their semi truck operates. This way they can identify any problems that may be prevented as well as complete some of the necessary repairs. While this isn't a necessity of the job, it definitely comes in handy and it can save a great deal of money for expensive repairs by a professional.

The hours of operation for truck drivers

For many truck drivers, the hours of operation have left them with having to split up their sleep time in order to accommodate their load times. In their opinion, this leaves them feeling more tired then the way the old hours of operation were. In many instances the hours of operation laws require the driver to get sleep when they aren't tired, but they are out of hours.

Each driver has to keep a daily log book that shows their hours of operation, sleep time, off duty time, and vehicle inspection time. If a truck driver is pulled over by law enforcement or pulled into a port, the log book can be reviewed. If the driver is in violation of the hours of operation they won't be able to move their truck until they have had adequate hours of rest. They can also receive a hefty fine in order to help reduce the number of driver's with such violations.

Other organizations fight to keep the hours of service in place. They believe it protects truck drivers from unrealistic demands of employers who are more interested in making a profit than the health of their drivers or the safety of everyone on the roads.

Car Breakdowns: Are You Equipped?

According to the AA the top 10 causes for breakdowns are as follows:

1: Flat or Faulty Battery

2: Lost Vehicle Keys

3: Flat/Damaged tyre and wheels

4: Alternator Faults

5: Starter Motor Faults

6: Distributor Cap problems

7: Fuel Problems

8: Clutch Cables

9: Spark Plugs

10: High Tension Leads

To carry a kit to cover every aspect of these problems you needless to say would need an AA breakdown vehicle. This article is your basic, simple list of the types of products you should have to hand if you find yourself making a long journey.

First things first, you have broken down! Try to get your vehicle off the road and get those hazard warning lights working especially if you are causing an obstruction. Also put your sidelights on if dark or visibility is poor.

Make sure you have your mobile phone with you and a Vehicle Breakdown telephone number if required (AA: 08457 887766 at the time of writing) be in a position to state your approximate location.

If you are on the motorway, it is advisable to use an emergency telephone on your side of the carriageway in preference to your mobile phone, there are reference numbers on all telephones and marker posts to direct the responder to your vehicle. If there is a danger of your vehicle being hit by other traffic, get all your other passengers out of the car and into a place of safety, don't split up. Assess whether it is safe to do a repair or whether to get professional help. If you have a reflective jacket or waistcoat, use it. If you have a warning triangle or other permitted warning device put it behind your vehicle, only if safe to do so, at least 45 metres (50 yards) on the same side of the road. (Remember to pick it up afterwards!!)

It is also a good idea to carry a pad of paper and a pen and also a camera so that in the event of an accident, you can easily draw the position of vehicles and record any damage with photographs.

Avoiding Breaking Down

Prevention is always better than cure, so here are some simple tips. Have your vehicle serviced regularly. Do not run the vehicle on low fuel, top up when about half full. Check your levels of oil, water, fluids, wiper blades, lights & screenwash at regular intervals and certainly before a long journey. Check tyre condition and pressures, not forgetting the spare!. Know where your basic toolkit, medical kit and your jack and wheel removal tools are, also make sure you know where the key or removal tool for locking wheel nuts are are, you may not know what to do with these, but a good Samaritan who may stop to help will be frustrated if you don't carry any! Don't forget a map, it's essential as you cannot rely on the Sat Nav if you have no power!

Top 10 Causes of a Breakdown

1: Flat/Faulty Battery
Most common problems are bad terminal and clamp connections, or by loss of voltage often caused by by constant use on short journeys without regular recharging

2: Lost Keys
Always carry a spare set with you, not left in the car, you may just find yourself locked out!

3: Flat/ Damaged Tyre & Wheels
Know your correct tyre pressures for different speeds & loads, adjust accordingly. When checking tread depth, look for uneven wear possibly caused by wheels being out of alignment. Check rims for damage as this could cause slow air leaks.

4: Alternator Faults
Battery problems and dimming headlights when the engine is on low revs can indicate this problem. A red warning light coming on plus a rise in the engine temperature may indicate a broken belt. STOP the vehicle!

5: Starter Motor
Usually quite robust but sometimes can stick. Can sometimes be cleared by "rocking" the car in 2nd gear to move it from a dead spot

6: Distributor Cap
Moisture and dirt are the culprits here. A small crack probably invisible to the eye can also be enough to allow high ignition voltage to seep away, especially in damp conditions. Damp repellent spray such as WD40 may cure, but only temporarily

7: Fuel Problems
Running out of fuel is very common, as mentioned do not let your tank get much below half full. Around 100,000 motorists a year put the wrong fuel in their car, petrol in diesel engines & vice versa. The car would have to be recovered to a garage and the fuel drained out and disposed of. If it is not your vehicle make sure you know what fuel it uses. You could put a label on your key fob as this is often used to open the tank.

8: Clutch Cables
The clutch cable is under high stress. Abrasion will weaken the wire strands until they break. A temporary repair may be done but replace at the first signs of wear to be safe.

9: Spark Plugs
Never run your spark plugs over the recommended service interval, they need to be able to perform well especially in damp, cold conditions.

10: HT Leads
Moisture and grime are once again the culprits that can attack cracks in the insulation reducing the engine voltage. Damp repellent sprays such as WD40 can act as a temporary repair but not permanent.

Conclusion and Checklist

I hope this of use to someone, if it helps one person it has been worthwhile. I had to learn the hard way!

Here is a checklist of important items and links to them where necessary, Print this guide and take it with you the next time you are setting off on a long journey.

1: Mobile Phone.
2: Breakdown Assistance 'Phone Number.
3: Reflective Jacket/Waistcoat.
4: Warning Triangle.
5: Toolkit.
6: Jack.
7: Wheel Removal Tools.
8: Terminal Cleaner.
9: Charging Batteries.
10: Tyre Pressures & Depth Gauges.
11: Running out of Fuel.
12: WD40 / Lubricant.
13: Spare Vehicle Keys.
14: Reliable Torch - (Wind-up or LED powered model).
15: Mounted Fire Extinguisher.

BioDiesel Fuel of the Future

What is Bio-diesel?

Well, Bio-diesel is the future. Because it is so clean burning and easy to use, bio-diesel is the fastest growing and most cost efficient fuel being created today.

Bio-diesel is a form of Bio-fuel made by ripping apart the fat molecule to release three free fatty acid esters, and a sugar called glycerol. Bio-diesel is produced from the fatty acid molecules found in numerous feedstock oils such as plant, animal, and recycled cooking oils. The fundamental chemical reaction process that produces bio-diesel is relatively simple and has the potential to be adopted worldwide.

Bio-diesel is described as mono-alkyl esters of long-chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oils or animal fats, conforming to ASTM D6751 specifications for use in diesel engines. Bio-diesel is a processed fuel derived from biological sources that can be used in diesel vehicles with little or no modification. It is a renewable fuel that can be used instead of diesel fuel, that is made from petroleum.

Bio-diesel is most often blended with petroleum diesel in ratios of 2 percent (B2), 5 percent (B5), or 20 percent (B20). A naturally grown, alternative fuel source it is a clean burning alternative fuel, produced from domestically grown, renewable resources. Bio-diesel is simple to use, biodegradable, non-toxic, and basically free of sulfur compounds and aromatics.

Bio-diesel is the only alternative fuel for motor vehicles to have fully completed the health effects testing requirements of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments. And is one of the most rigorously tested alternative fuels on the market.

The CO2 released into the atmosphere when bio-diesel is burned is recycled by growing plants, which are later processed into fuel. Tests and demonstrations, have shown that bio-diesel is no different from petroleum diesel in terms of engine performance and wear.

Bio-diesel is being used across the U.S. in fleets of snowplows, garbage trucks, mail trucks, and military vehicles. In Hawaii all bio-diesel is made from used cooking oil collected from restaurants, making it a 100% recycled fuel, and keeping it out of landfills. Bio-diesel is also extensively used in Europe, especially Germany and France.

Diesel vehicles are generally the most long lasting reliable vehicles on the road, with most engines lasting over 400,000 miles. The best part of running Bio Diesel is that no wars need to be fought over it, it's entirely domestic, supports farming, it's totally renewable, often recycled, and it cuts almost all aspects of a diesel vehicle's emissions by more than 50 to 75%.

In a quest to help keep our air, rivers, streams, lakes and oceans cleaner, not to mention help stop Global Warming, we are attempting to free ourselves from dependency on fossil fuels, and trying to make our planet a better place to live.

Now you know what bio-diesel is, and why so many are making the switch to a cheaper less polluting and more efficient way to power our future.

Useful Tips for Total Car Care

Taking good care of your ride is always a great idea. Not only will your car run better if you perform regular maintenance on it, it will also hold a good resale value if you keep it looking it's best. Keep reading to discover some great car care tips offered here.

Let's start with the outside of your car. Your car should be washed and waxed on a regular basis. But what should you use to wash your car? Some people think that any old soap will do to wash your car, but this is not true. If you are using dish soap to wash your car then you are removing all wax from your car. Dish soap is made to remove animal fat from dishes, so it will be really good at taking off that fresh coat of wax that you applied last week. Your best choice for total car care would be to choose a quality car wash. These washes are more of a detergent than a soap and will do less damage to your wax job.

Minimizing any scratches is always a great practice towards making your car looks great. Any dirt that comes in between the cleaning material and the car surface will cause the surface to be scratched and therefore dulling the paint on your car. So, when you are cleaning your car don't forget to take note of any chips or scratches in the paint. These should be repaired immediately to avoid rust. Minor dings and dents should be noted also. You can opt to repair these yourself or take your car to a body shop for the repair.

Remember to include tire care in your total car care procedure. Check the tire pressure and the tread for wear and tear. Having the correct pressures for your tires not only will prolong the useful lives of your tires, you will experience a smoother drive and better fuel efficiencies. Check all of your valve stem caps to make sure they are tight, as they are the final seal after the tire valve stem and could help to hold up the tire pressure should the tire valve stem fails. Apply a quality rubber protectant to your tires to prevent damage from UV rays. This will keep the rubber of your tires from drying and cracking.

Once you have finished with the exterior of your car, it's time to check the interior. Vacuum the interior thoroughly. If there are stains on the upholstery or the carpet, you can use a quality carpet and upholstery shampoo to clean the interior. Wash the windshield inside and out and clean all vinyl with a good vinyl cleaner and protectant as well.

To complete your total auto car care mission you should look under the hood. Checking under the hood on a periodic basis can help you to spot problems before they become costly and is therefore a wise thing to do. It is best to conduct the check when the car engine is cold, i.e. not after the car is being used and that the engine is hot. Check all fluid levels. Take a good look at your belts and hoses and check for cracks or worn out signs. Finally, make sure that all caps are screwed on tightly after the checks are done..

Following these car care tips will allow you to take the best possible care of your car. It will also save you money in the long run because a well maintained car will bring in more money for you should you decide to sell or trade in your car.

Do yourself and your car a favor and perform total auto car care on a regular basis - it will serve you well for a long, long way to come.

Enjoy safe driving.

Hybrid Pickups: More Work For Less Gas

Hybrid electric vehicles, such as hybrid pickups, are considered to be among the most fuel-efficient modes of transport. Automobiles equipped with the latest hybrid electric technology feature a combination of an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. The best thing about this electric motor is that it can be modified or configured for a variety of purposes, such as boosting and improving the performance of fuel economy, and providing electrical power to alternative loads such as energy tools.

Greater Gas Mileage

Hybrid pickups and other electric vehicles are normally propelled by internal combustion engine just like conventional automobiles. In hybrids however, the energy that is usually lost or wasted during car processes like braking and coasting are converted to a potential source of car power. This energy is stored in the car’s battery and will only be utilized by the car’s electric motor when needed.

What then is the function of an electric motor? It is primarily used to provide support to the engine when the car is accelerating or traveling up a slope. Under low-speed situations, the electric motor gives assistance to the internal combustion engine because it is less efficient.

Unlike other traditional electric vehicles, hybrid pickups do not need to be plugged to an external electrical outlet or resource for the battery to be recharged. Instead, regenerative braking and gasoline are what most hybrid pickups need to fully operate.

New Hybrid Pickups and Cars

For next year, several hybrid pickup and car manufacturers have already released their brand new products or models. Here are some of them:

First is the Ford Escape Hybrid, a sports utility vehicle having a 4-cylinder engine and a CVT or continuously variable transmission, all available on both four-wheel and front-wheel drives.

Another type of hybrid pickup or vehicle that will be available next year is the Mazda Tribute Hybrid. Like the Ford Escape Hybrid, it is also a sports utility vehicle that has 4-cylinder engine. The only difference is that its CVT or continuously variable transmission is available only in four-wheel and two-wheel drive.

Also joining this list is the Mercury Mariner Hybrid, another sports utility vehicle that has a four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable transmission both available in the four-wheel and front-wheel drive. The features of this particular hybrid pickup are almost the same as the Ford Escape Hybrid.

Lastly, Lexus LS 600h L is a midsize hybrid pickup or car designed to have an eight-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. It is one of the most anticipated car releases because of its state-of-the-art features. However, this particular hybrid pickup and the Mazda Tribute Hybrid are both not yet certified by IRS so it means that they are not yet eligible for credits in terms of taxation or tax payments.

Related News

Almost three years ago, Governor Arnold Schwarzenneger authorized the law in California to allow all car lanes to be opened for hybrid pickups or gasoline-hybrid vehicles that can reach distances of up to forty-five miles per gallon, which draws a specific technical demarcation. However, only a relatively small number of hybrid vehicles qualify for this 45 mpg rule as of this time.

This includes the Toyota Prius and Toyota Camry, Honda Insight and Honda Civic Hybrid. Hybrid pickups produced by Ford and those of General Motors missed the cut being employed by this law because they can only reach distances of thirty-six miles per gallon. Overall, this caused a certain constraint on other hybrid automobile products - but it is also an incentive for them to lift their game in future releases.

Lets Know More About Tires

The pressure
First don't forget to check your tire pressure at least once a month. And during the summer months, be sure that you check the tire pressure when the tires are cold for the air inside expands when the tires are hot so you would be getting a different reading. Put valve cores back in wheels and inflate tires to a middle pressure that you run. Use a vice or clamp to apply pressure on the patch for 5 mins to make a strong bond. The other thing that you need to check regularly is the pressure of the automobile tires.

To the rubber
Raw rubber and various chemicals are an obvious starting point, but modern tire manufacturing uses a lot of things you wouldn't expect to find, such as pigments, wire, and special fabrics. Scenery flashing by as the endless miles of the highway unfurl before, picturesque villages chanced upon almost by accident, the squeal of rubber and protesting metal as tires that should have been replaced months before lose their grip on a treacherous mountain turn. A lot of good 'skull sweat' has gone into the rubber under your car and when it comes to complexity, most people probably wouldn't put tires very high on the list.

The discount
As motorcycle tires cost a bundle, investing in a pair of discount motorcycle tires is actually not a bad idea to put a curb on your expenses. It's not difficult to find discount ATV tires online as long as you know where to look. But you can find some pretty fair deals on discount ATV tires at this site. However, before deciding to replace your worn tires with a discount brand there are some things you should consider. In this case, outfitting your car with discount tires is probably reasonably safe.

The mud part
If you are looking for a serious mud ride check the nearest dealer tires out. Whether you are looking for mud tires, sand tires, or all terrain tires they've got what it takes to keep you smiling and on the road. And whether you are looking for the perfect sand tires or mud tires here is a great place to compare. Power Flow mud flaps are made of a sturdy composite material to resist harmful UV rays and the chalking that commonly occurs after long term use. But either way, mud flaps will protect your vehicle's body and keep you from climbing in and out of a mud streaked cab.

The flat tire
Gone would be the need for long lasting tires, for tires that can withstand high speeds, for tires that can run flat and for a myriad of other tire products. If you experience a flat tire, when you jacking your car, make sure that you raise your car a little higher so that you can not only remove the old flat tire but you can also put in the new tire. And then after this procedure you can remove the flat tire.

The snow tires part
Either you buy snow tires or you go with all-season radials, it is of utmost importance during the winter, when in many areas the presence of ice and snow on roadways creates a deadly hazard. Drivers living outside the belt who sometimes encounter snow, or are skiers should also consider moving up to winter tires from all-season tires, especially if the all-seasons have more than a couple of years of wear on them.

To the traction
most people don't look at traction but there are tires that cause less slippage allowing a better pull and providing more power and traction to the machine. With higher traction, the tractor is able to stay on the ground without fearing the possibility of the vehicle slipping on icy ground. They have increased durability with maintain traction and handling. They are studded with metal particles embedded in them thus allowing better traction in snow and ice. There are four ratings for traction: AA, A, B, C. As the tread wear rating rises, traction usually decreases.

To the nitrogen
The newest ingenuity in automobile tires is nitrogen inflation. Filling your tires with nitrogen rather than air will improve gas mileage, help maintain correct tire pressure, keep tires 25% cooler, improve handling and performance and prolongs the life of your tires. And filling your tires with nitrogen, on the other hand, does have a definite cost. According to the companies that manufacture nitrogen compression systems, nitrogen filling will help to save money on not only tire replacement, but gas as well.

Tips on Selling Your Vehicle

Many car buyers opt to sell their car themselves rather than haggle with the dealer over trade allowance and muddy the waters. Selling a car can be a lot of work, but there are some things you can do to make your vehicle much more marketable and get a better price.

To sell a vehicle, you will need to price it, make any necessary preparations for sale, and find a buyer. The first thing you should do is be realistic about what you have and why you are selling it. If it is on its last leg, acknowledge that and price it accordingly. However, if it is a newer car in good condition, you should take that into account as well.

In order to determine the value of your vehicle, you should consult the major online sources like Kelley Blue Book, NADA, and Edmunds. Be sure to look at trade, retail, and private party values from each source to get a well rounded idea of your vehicle's potential value. A quick search to see what the same model is selling for in your area is another way to find a decent price for your vehicle. If you are asking several thousand more than everyone else, there should be a good reason, but you should be sure to leave some room for negotiations.

Some cars are very marketable with little or no work, but many can benefit from a little bit of maintenance or attention to appearance. Taking your vehicle to a mechanic and having a state inspection done is cheap and will ensure the buyer can license and register the vehicle without making any repairs, as well as make you aware of any issues. Many small things like squeaky brakes can leave a bad impression on potential buyers, but a mechanic can fix this with a simple cleaning. An oil change, replacing old air filters, wipers, and topping off the fluids will make your vehicle seem well maintained.

Although having your vehicle professionally detailed is not necessary, a thorough cleaning, inside and out, will help you get top dollar for your vehicle. Using Armor All on the interior and tires, replacing ugly floor mats, and applying a coat of wax will make your vehicle as attractive as possible.

It is possible to sell your vehicle by sticking a sign in the window or through personal networking, but listing your car in the local paper or an online source is probably your best bet. Remember, it only takes one curious caller to buy your car, so try to write an ad that focuses on your vehicle's strong points like mileage, age, equipment, appearance, or reliability. Whether your contact info is for a phone number or email address, think about a quick and honest pitch for your vehicle, but remember that you cannot sell the vehicle over the phone, so try to arrange a test drive if the caller sounds promising.

If you do these things and are willing to bargain, you should not have much trouble selling your vehicle.

Tips On Buying A Used Car

What are some useful tips on buying a used car?

Well, research would be a good place to start.

Suppose, you are looking for a used car. You look in the newspaper and find a car that you like at a price that you can afford from either a car lot or a private seller. It is not wise, although many people do it, to simply just pick up the phone, make an appointment, go visit the seller, and make an impulsive decision to buy it based on how it looks and appears to run.

People shirk research because they think that it's too hard. However, you can find out two really important things with some easy research: the best price for the car and its real condition.

How To Research Price
You can simply go online and view similar makes and models to get details on how much it's really worth. Some good places to visit can be fightingchance.com, autoweb.com, and autos.com. It's smarter and easier to research online rather than driving all over town looking at various price tags. Get at least three quotes for the car you're interested in buying. Not everyone is as honest as you may be, so never go to a car yard without doing your due diligence first.

Once you've done your homework, you're now in a much better position to pick up the phone and call the seller. If you do decide to see the car, you're also in a much better negotiating position. Other ways of researching price, besides the internet, include trading magazines, other ads in different newspapers, and visiting a few used car lots.

How To Research The Condition Of A Car
Your research should not only be on price. If you can look up the car's VIN or vehicle identification number, you can also look up its history. You can tell if its been flooded or in an accident by going to autofax.com or carfax.com. Sometimes, just looking at a car, it's not possible to see all the things that could be cleaned up by an automobile dealer.

It's best to be thoroughly organized about your car research, keeping a folder to store all the information that you find. Some simple precautionary research can save you from shelling out thousands of dollars for a lemon. They can also alert you on how to spot a really good deal when you find one.

These two tips on buying a used car are well worth the time you put into them. Research does not have to be hard. On the other hand, making an expensive mistake by not learning how to buy a used car can certainly be a hard experience.

Tips
Educate yourself before buying a car, no negotiating prices without going for a test drive! Do you buy nice clothes without trying them on. Arm yourself with knowledge, with these tips, you can confidently walk into a car dealership, ready to be confronted by eager salesmen. More dealers are better: The more dealers you have in your area, the more competition for your business, the higher your odds of getting a good deal. Some helpful guidelines and car buying tips can be found at the Federal Information Center, as well as a wealth of other money related issues.
Information
The good news is that with the advent of the Internet, a world of information -- never available to our parents and grandparents -- is just a click away. Walking onto a dealer's lot with no information is like walking into the lion's den. And relying on a dealer for information is just slightly better. It levels the playing field by giving accurate information to the consumer.

You can also read up on the latest car reviews by browsing the Web as there is literally a wealth of pertinent information available online. Never discuss in a dealership what you can afford on a monthly basis; dealers can use that information to structure a car loan to meet or slightly beat your monthly-payment requirements, without addressing the more important issues: the total price of the car and the terms of the loan. To negotiate on price, you must be armed with information about the true value of the car you want with all the options you demand.

A variety of Web sites now offer detailed consumer information comparing the dealer's invoice cost, what the dealer paid the manufacturer, against the MSRP printed on the window sticker. Important information about automobiles and fuel economy should always be considered. Some helpful guidelines and car buying tips can be found at the Federal Information Center, as well as a wealth of other money related issues. Check it out, you'll be surprised at the valuable information you'll find there. They combine extensive industry knowledge, dealership experience, and the power of the Internet to empower the consumer with the information they need to negotiate the best deal. They offer valuable research and information about used cars. You can find out about rebates online whereas before, unless you ask the car salesman, he wouldn't volunteer the information to you.

Loan
You will get greater flexibility and savings by getting pre-approved for a car loan before shopping for a new or used car. And,if you decide to finance the car, find out what your monthly payment should be by shopping for a car loan before going to the dealership. You may discover that getting a loan will cost less than financing directly. If you do find a loan that you like, it's recommended that you get approved for it before buying the car. The question you really must ask yourself at this point isn't how much car you can afford but how much car loan you can afford. That determines how much car loan you'll be able to cover comfortably every month for the next three to four years. The next step is to talk to your bank or credit union to find out what rates they're currently charging on new-car loans for 36 and 48 months. There are many ways to find the best loan for you regardless of your credit standing. The prospective car buyer can also look into current interest rates on car loans ahead of time and determine which way they should proceed with regard to financing the vehicle. So be sure to follow these steps; do your research on the car, research available loan rates and programs online, check your impact on your insurance, and then reach a dealer about the car you want.

Final Thoughts
The world of car buying is changing rapidly. Online new car buying is a quick and easy way to look for a car in the privacy of one's own home without the pressure of sales people pushing you into rash buying. The key to successful car buying is to meet your wants and needs within your budget.

Pickup Trucks And Safety

Recent news has the consumer population clamoring about whether or not the cars we drive are really safe. Forbes came out with an article on July 30, 2007 by Bengt Halvorson titled "Top 20 Most Dangerous Vehicles," that uncovered some unnerving facts about pickup trucks in general. According to the article, "Pickups as a class have the highest rate of fatality and serious injury," said Michael Dulberger, president of Informed for Life - a safety advocacy group.

Sound familiar? A few years back, we heard the same complaint about SUVs. The uproar - and America's reluctance to give up their SUVs despite safety concerns - prompted SUV manufacturers to add safety features to Sport Utility Vehicles.

Several pickup trucks, however, already have a leg up on the competition. Specifically, Isuzu's two high-performance pickup trucks: the i-290 and i-370. Both models offer a wide variety of safety features you might only expect to find on a Sport Utility.

The first and perhaps most important, is the Electronic Traction Control option which also includes Automatic Locking Rear Differential. The feature helps provide more controlled acceleration on slippery surfaces and in severe weather conditions by reducing engine power to reduce wheel spin. Another features is the pickup's push-system that allows the driver to shift from 2-wheel-drive to 4-wheel drive on-the-fly. Anti-Lock Braking Systems are a must when it comes to safety and Isuzu's pickups offer 4-wheel anti-lock brakes to reduce wheel lockup on slippery surfaces when the need to brake hard arises. Daytime running lights and a tire pressure monitoring system also make Isuzu's pickups safer than many competitors. The pickups also sport Head-Curtain Side Impact Airbags and an automatic Airbag Suppression System in the event that an accident should occur.

By comparison, here's a list of the pickup trucks that made the list of the Top 20 Most Dangerous: the Ford Ranger/Mazda B-Series which doesn't offer stability control, side airbags or curtain airbags; the Nissan Frontier (Extended Cab) ; and the Dodge Dakota 4-door pickup (side airbags and curtain airbags are optional). A few SUVs also made the list like the Nissan Xterra, and the remainder (as one might predict) was populated by very small economy cars such as the Saturn ION and Mazda3.

While the trend is typically to make vehicles safer by adding both passive and active safety features, the reality is that certain cars tend to fare better in accidents than others. Small, lightweight cars are no match in a collision with an SUV even if they possess enhanced safety features. While pickup trucks tend to fare better than cars in SUV collisions, it's evident from the aforementioned study that many pickup truck manufacturers simply aren't adding valuable safety features to their pickup lines in the way they are on SUVs.

Pickup truck enthusiasts shouldn't have to compromise safety to drive the vehicles they love. Demanding SUV safety features be added either as standard or optional to pickups is the first step. Purchasing pickups that have these features - like the Isuzu i-370 or i-290 - will entice others in the automotive industry to follow suit and soon, pickups will be as safe as SUVs.

Some of us need the power that comes with a 4x4 SUV. And an isuzu suv will fit the bill for every driver on the road looking for power and comfort.

Pick Up Trucks: The Symbol Of Today's Middle America

Middle America geographically refers to the area of land between the east coast states and the west coast states, but the term is more often used as a cultural label rather than a geographical one. It tends to suggest a suburb or small town where most of the residents are middle class (households earning approximately between $19,000 annually - considered lower middle class - and those earning up to about $55,000 per year - upper middle class). The paradigm of "Middle America" often includes a highly Protestant, highly Caucasian concentration of Americans, but both the religious makeup and ethnicity of those groups are evolving to a more diversified composition.

What isn't changing about "Middle America," is its economy. Traditionally, those living in "Middle America" work in some type of agricultural field with the exception of those living in suburban locals. Housing prices tend to be lower there, home prices tend to appreciate much more slowly, and the people living there tend to be less affected by urban sprawl, traffic, and the other social ills that come with major industrial and residential growth associated with bigger cities.

Politically, "Middle America" tends to encompass the "battleground states," in which no candidate of either party has overwhelming political support. Despite the cliché that Middle America supports "traditional family values" (which tend to learn toward the more conservative political positions), voters there have been known to vote for whichever candidate supports the hot button issues that affect those living in the region, since many of the issues that affect city-dwellers do not affect them.

So what does this mean for pickup trucks? Interestingly, quite a lot. Pickup trucks, such as the extended cab Isuzu i-370 and others like it, are popular vehicles in "Middle America." Their versatility is a key factor; they make hauling farm equipment and supplies easy, able to fit much more in their open beds than could be wedged into an SUV, while also providing an ideal vehicle for family outings most seating up to five or more people comfortably. They fare well in adverse weather conditions as well. Because much of "Middle America" deals with constantly changing seasons, from harsh rains in the summer months to blizzards in winter, pickup trucks can usually press on where smaller vehicles equipped with a lower wheel base, cannot.

Because of their power and versatility, the pickup truck is more than just the preferred vehicle for Middle Americans. Over the years, it has become a symbol of hard work, of perseverance, of longevity. For manufacturers and distributors of pickups, this is a good thing. Sales of pickups don't rise and fall the way they do for other types of vehicles. While trends for city drivers can change dramatically based on which models have the best safety features, which are friendlier to the environment, which are most attractive, pickup trucks appear to be exempt from such peaks and valleys. People who drive pickups continue to drive pickups. They know what they want and pickup trucks meet their needs as well as support their identity and beliefs as a symbol of the working class. Pickups are, in short, as American as baseball and apple pie.

Car Accessories Parts For Your Vehicle's Sound System

Believe it or not but if you find the right car accessories parts dealing with audio and sound, you can transform your vehicle's sound system from a tiny beach radio to a bass-boosting fantastic music machine with sound so great you can hear when a pin drops. Today there are lots of sound accessories from a variety of brands such as Pioneer car accessories, iPod car accessories and many more that can turn this into a reality. Today you don't have to rely on a few CDs in your car's glove compartment and you are not stuck with the music your local radio station are playing either.

The iPOD has developed to a multi-faceted digital audio system since its inception by Apple in 2001. This sound system has gone through different incarnations, from the Mini to the Shuffle model. The BMW was the first vehicle company to include iPOD car accessories and technology in its vehicles. In 2005, Apple announced the expansion into other auto brands, such as Volkswagen, Honda, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz and others. Now, almost any car can be equipped with adaptors and interfaces to incorporate the use of an iPOD.

Factory radio iPOD interfaces can be bought through many online sites and car accessories parts stores that would allow you to use your own radio controls as controls for your iPOD. By connecting certain iPOD vehicle accessories, thousands of songs can be downloaded and accessed through your own car music system. Quality interfaces from Panasonic, JVC, Sony and Pioneer can all be bought new or aftermarket.

Another useful iPOD vehicle accessory part is the iPOD cup holder mount. This contraption fits conveniently in any standard cup holder and allows you to slide your iPOD into a position that is easily accessible, thus avoiding it to slide across your dashboard or passenger seat while you drive.

If you're looking for an easier connection from your iPod to your vehicle's stereo system, there are a few options for you. The most frugal is a wireless FM transmitter. This transmitter attaches through the headphones jack of your iPod and broadcasts music over a localized FM band within your car. The changeableness of this item makes it possible to bring it from vehicle to vehicle no matter what the vehicle's radio capabilities are. The only necessity is that the radio can pick up a FM signal.

A more permanent and upscale music system arrangement is available with Pioneer car accessories. This vendor has a reputation for quality sound systems and crystal-clear audio. If you want a music system above an iPod, look at what the line of Pioneer vehicle accessories has to offer. The Pioneer CD-ID100II model is an accessory that works as a connector between your iPod and your Pioneer car audio system, doubling as a charger for your iPod. Other options include surround sound, quality subwoofers, and even a Bluetooth hands-free tuner for iPod controls.

To be honest, there are too many options on the market today to settle with the ordinary, dull and boring standard dealer installed sound systems. To get the sound you deserve, great car accessories parts for sound systems is a must. All you have to do is visiting your local car audio store. No matter what kind of music you prefer, the sound you can get for your vehicle today is nothing but great, whether you prefer classical music or heavy metal rock.

Fix that Flat: Common Sense Tips for Using a Tire Jack

When you need to jack your car up to change a tire, it may not always be under ideal conditions. Regardless of whether you're on the side of a highway or in the relative comfort of your own garage, the process of lifting a vehicle weighing thousands of pounds entails some risk. By following a few simple procedures, you can minimize any hazards to yourself and your vehicle.

Know Your Jack Most vehicles come equipped with a small scissor jack. This jack will be functional enough for an emergency tire-change on the roadside. Before you're in an emergency situation, familiarize yourself with your specific jack and how it works.

Secure the Area When possible, ensure that vehicle is parked on a level surface. Make sure that the car is secure. The emergency brake should be firmly set. Vehicles with automatic transmissions should be in "park," while ones with manual transmissions should be left in gear.
Wedge bricks or blocks to the front and back of the tire on a diagonal from the tire to be lifted.

Pick Your Battleground Determine an appropriate place to set the jack. A common novice mistake is to set the jack under a bumper or body panel. These areas aren't designed to hold the weight of the entire car; they can break under the strain and allow the car to fall. The jack must go under the vehicle's frame, otherwise known as the chassis. Most cars are designed with a specific location for jack placement. When in doubt, check your owner's manual.

Keep it Steady Make sure that the jack is placed on a stable, even surface. If the ground is rough or covered with gravel, place a broad, sturdy board underneath the jack. This is especially important with small, factory-provided tire jacks, which may very have narrow bases.

Proceed with Caution Crank the jack up slowly. Although you may be in a hurry, take your time. Be careful to not have any part of your body underneath the car, so as not to be injured if the vehicle should fall. Once the car is lifted enough for the tire to clear the ground, push on it a bit to verify its stability on the jack.

Lower the Vehicle Now that the tire has been changed, bring the car back down just as you jacked it up: slowly and with care. Once again, no part of your body (or anyone else's) should be underneath the vehicle. If there are other people present or assisting, have them step back away from the car and out of the way. Finally, remove the blocks from the chocked wheel.
By working at an even pace and using common sense, you should be able to raise a vehicle, change its tire, and lower it again safely. Keep in mind that these instructions only apply to lift a car to change a tire, not to any kind of repair work that requires you to get underneath the car; for that, further precautions will be necessary.

How To Change Brake Pads

Front brakes or back brakes--which provide more braking power? If you can't answer this question you probably need some help with your brakes.

Brakes are the single most important part of you vehicle, hands down. It is critical for your own and everyone else's personal safety to make sure your brakes work properly. You shouldn't be scared to change your own brakes, but you should be confident with your skills. If you don't know the difference between a Phillips head and a flat head screw driver, you should bring your car to a mechanic.

Preparation tips:
Take plenty of time to familiarize yourself with the brakes before you start working on your car. Also work on one side at a time. This way, if you mess up you can reference the other side.
Obviously you will buy the pads before you start. But which ones will you buy? Cheap, generic pads wear out quickly and even though you may be spending less money now, you will ultimately be spending more money and time in the long run. More expensive pads are less prone to leaving your front wheels covered in unsightly black dust.

Changing the Pads:
1. Engage the parking brake put something behind the rear tires so that the car cannot move.
2. Loosen the lug nuts around the wheel.
3. Raise the car with a jack and secure it on jack stands.
4. Remove the lug nuts and the wheel.
5. Now you can see the brake calipers holding the brake pads in place against the rotor. There are two pads per wheel that squeeze the rotor. Use a C-clamp to compress the caliper piston into the caliper housing. This will make it possible to remove the caliper assembly and create enough space for the increased pad width of the new brake pads.

6. Unbolt the caliper mounting bolts and pull the caliper back from the rotor. Be careful not to bend or break the brake hose. Sometimes the caliper mounting bolts require you to use a torx or star bit instead of a normal socket. Plan ahead and make sure you have the right tools for the job to save yourself a trip back to the parts store before your brakes are disassembled.

7. Remove the brake pads from the caliper. Examine them for unusual or uneven wear. Is only one pad worn down? Are the pads worn down on an angle? These could be signs of problems that need to be addressed immediately.

8. This is also a good time to examine the condition of the rotors. If they have deep grooves, or if your car shudders when you hit the brakes, then you will need to get the rotors turned or replaced.

9. Install the new pads in the caliper. Usually, it's best to place the inner pad first, then the outer pad second. You may have to depress the piston fully into the caliper housing in order to provide enough space for the new pads.

10. Once the pads are properly seated in the caliper, put the caliper back on the rotor and bolt it firmly in place.

11. If everything is correct, you may put the wheel back on, hand tighten the lug nuts, and lower the car to the ground. Finish tightening the lug nuts in a star pattern so that they are even.

Replacing your pads is rather simple if you know what you are doing and have the right tools. If it's your first time you might want to call a buddy over just to make sure to don't skip any steps. Important: test your brakes before taking your car into traffic. Stop and start a few times just to make sure everything is installed properly.

Transform Your Truck Into A Campsite With A Truck Tent

As with any new product, I like to see if it will withstand the test of time. Many new products come and go, creating hype and quickly fading a few months later, never to be heard from again. Are truck tents a good idea?

Do you enjoy the outdoors, but aren't as earthy crunchy as you used to be? Did your girlfriend kick you out for the night? Whatever the case, turn your vehicle into comfortable sleeping quarters with a truck tent.

When I first heard about truck tents I remember thinking, "What a great idea!" Too bad I don't have a truck. Luckily, there are tents built for every type of vehicle. Now you don't need a camper to go camping.

Truck tents are made specifically for pick up trucks. But how can a tent accommodate both an F350 and a Ranger? The tents come in different sizes so they are custom designed for each truck. These tents sit in the actual truck bed. I found that the biggest advantage of these tents is you don't have to deal with dirt, sand, and other elements getting in your tent.

There aren't any doormats to wipe your feet on when you're camping. I can't stand tracking dirt into my house and I certainly don't want mud in my sleeping bag. My girlfriend isn't a fan of dirty living areas either. So if you're trying to convince a chick to go camping, this may be your winning argument.

Ever been camping, enjoying a picturesque day, when all of a sudden those evil unexpected rain clouds roll in? No need to worry with a truck tent. With your bed elevated, you won't wake up in a puddle and won't get your tent dirty. I love the outdoors, but even I hate dealing with muddy gear.

They also make tents that work with your SUV or Minivan. In my opinion, these aren't as beneficial as the truck tents. SUV tents sit on the ground like a regular tent. Although they provide less protection from nature, they allow you to access and utilize your vehicle's interior with out leaving the tent.

Nowadays, every vehicle comes with a great sound system. Some are even equipped with DVD players and video game systems. Minivan tents sit behind the vehicle and attach to your open trunk area, fusing the tent space with your vehicle's interior, which can then serve as a bedroom or an extra cargo area. Unexpected rain doesn't have to ruin your day. Pop in a CD and enjoy quality tunes while you stay dry.

They even make tents for hatchbacks! With recent popularity of such cars as the Toyota Matrix, Pontiac Vibe, and the Mazda 3 hatchbacks have really made a comeback. I don't know how long it will last, but at least companies are including them in their accessory design. These tents work along the same lines as the SUV tent, converting your vehicles cargo area into a massive storage space or an exclusive sleeping area.

Heck, you can even hunt from a truck tent. One company makes a camouflage tent so you can discreetly blend into the surrounding environment. Wow. You don't even need to leave you car to go hunting now. What will they think of next?

Overall, I think truck tents are a good product. If you have ever been to a K.O.A campground, you know it camping isn't as exciting as you once thought. I don't consider having a pool, game room, and another camper ten feet away camping. You will encounter lot of people are just looking to get away to the "outdoors" for a weekend.

If you've never seen Truck Tents, I really recommend at least checking them out. If you're worried about it taking up space, don't fret. Mine fits right in my Dee Zee tool box. - Mike Rosania

Economical and Affordable Green Automotive Technology

Although hybrid cars are the rage, and there are all kinds of alternative energy sources on the horizon, hybrids are cost prohibitive, usually ranging $3000 to $7000 more than the gas only version of that model. However, instead of changing fuel sources, some automotive companies have been using a new type of transmission to improve fuel economy, lower emissions, and actually make vehicles faster without adding to the sticker price.

These companies are using a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and instead of having set gear ratios (or gears), it constantly varies the gear ratios, as well as engine performance, so that they both operate at their most efficient level in any driving scenario.

Because these key components of the power train are at their peak performance at all times, fuel economy is improved by 6-8% and carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by 10%.

Although these figures may not sound impressive, the gas savings increase the highway mileage of most vehicles by 4 to 6 mpg, which adds up pretty quickly at $3/gallon.

The CVT's potential for reducing emissions is also significant. As Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Nissan Motor Company, said, achieving his goal of selling one million CVT equipped vehicles by the end of 2007 will have "the same effect in terms of reducing CO2 emissions as selling 200,000 hybrid electric vehicles."

Since there is no shifting between fixed gears, there is no 'shift shock' or jerking sensation, which makes them exceptionally smooth to drive. CVTs also do well in hilly terrain since there is no 'gear hunting' or bogging down on a hill, followed by a loud, violent downshift, which also contributes to its superior acceleration.

You may be wondering why this isn't in every car if it is so great. Well, every year, more vehicles in the American market add CVTs as an option, though it has happened quietly, as many people are leery of new technology, especially in cars.

The CVT is actually quite old although it is new to American automobiles. The concept was developed by Leonardo DaVinci and was first patented in the late 1800's for industrial applications. The CVT has been used in Asian and European vehicles since the 1950's, but until recently CVTs could not handle the power that American drivers demand from their cars. However, CVTs have seen widespread use in snowmobiles and Formula 500 racing where they have a reputation for extending engine life and being much easier to rebuild than either a manual or automatic step transmission.

So where can you test drive a CVT-equipped vehicle? Well you can go to dealerships selling Ford, Dodge, Audi, or Mini-Cooper, to name a few, although a Nissan dealership may be the best place to go. In order to hit their goal of one million CVT sales in 2007, they have installed CVTs in nearly every sedan in their lineup, including the best selling Altima, Maxima, and economical Versa (as a side note, Nissan has also made side curtain airbags standard in these models, improving safety and reducing insurance costs).

Although you may not have the budget for a hybrid vehicle or cannot wait for that miracle fuel to hit the market, you can take it easy on the environment, as well as your checkbook, by checking out a few cars with a CVT.

Go, Greased Lightning - the All Electric Car

Ever since Mr Benz first put an internal combustion engine onto a piece of carriagework and thus invented the car, the internal combustion engine has been powered by gasoline or some other derivative of petroleum.

And we all know what's happened ever since. Oil has become the world's black gold and many people in Texas and in the Gulf States have become multimillionaires through owning an oil well.

But now things are about to change. We've been told time and again that the world's fossil fuel supplies are running out and we need to look at other sources of energy. Pollution is also a big issue, with global warming being almost constantly in the news.

Electricity looks promising, as an all electric car wouldn't give off any noxious fumes as a by-product. And with the right sort of battery, an all electric car wouldn't have rechargeable batteries, so there wouldn't be a waste disposal problem when it comes to the batteries. Could an all electric car be the perfect solution to the energy crisis and global warming?

Well, an all electric car would help. However, there are some hitches in designing an all electric car. The first one is the issue of speed and power. Modern drivers are used to having vehicles that have a good rate of acceleration and enough power to tow a trailer. Until recently, designs for an all electric car haven't been particularly powerful (but not any more!)

And there may be a more sinister problem behind why an all electric car hasn't been launched onto the mainstream market. Rumours abound about how designers who have managed to patent an all electric car have had the rights to produce the vehicle bought by big oil companies or big auto companies (the details vary depending on which version of the story you hear). And then the design for the all electric car is hidden away, never to see the light of day and threaten the foundation of the buyer's wealth...

But the problems are starting to be overcome. Designs of all electric car have been seen at more than one motor show as concept cars, and the way international trends are going, it won't be long until we can buy an all electric car at your regular car dealer's yard. This happened with hybrid cars like the Toyota Prius, and it will happen with the all electric car, too.

And we are already seeing new companies that specialise in making all electric cars. So far, we have ZENN (stands for Zero Emissions No Noise), Venturi (which makes a solar powered all electric car) and Tesla, which has used modern carbon fibre technology and combined with Lotus to produce an all electric car that has stats that read like those of a sports car.

To be more precise, the Tesla Roadster, which is an all electric car, not a hybrid (not even a plug-in hybrid), can go from 0-60 mph in 4 seconds, a maximum torque of 185 kW and has a top speed of 130 mph (more than the legal limit in many countries). And this all electric car looks pretty good, too!

For the moment at least, an all electric car isn't cheap. But given time, we're sure to see the all electric car become more and more common on our roads, the same way as hybrid cars have.
Another drawback of the electric car is its size. The bigger the car, the more energy is needed to power the car. The electric car's current capabilities are only enough to power relatively small cars. A modern family with a few groceries or packages would not find a small electric car convenient.

And what of the environmentally-friendly aspect of electric cars? Most people who are willing to spend the extra money and to live with the aforementioned inconveniences of having an electric car do so because they are tried of ever-climbing gas prices and of the world's dependency on polluting oil. Electric cars are entirely clean and have no negative impact on the environment--while they're running, at least.

Unless you're one of the very few who live in a city with an alternate energy power plant or you've converted your residence to be powered by alternative energy such as solar power, hydroelectric power, or wind power and you only charge your electric car battery at those outlets, your electric car pollutes.

If you get your electrical energy from a coal-burning plant, the electric car's battery is contributing to burning coal as it charges--at a rate which is not much less than burning gas in a car. If your city is powered by nuclear power, at least it's a cleaner burning form of energy, but there is still the problem of the disposal of toxic waste. Plus, you're spending just about if not more money on the extra charge on your utility bill as you would at the gas pump.

So the electric car has been put back on the drawing board, every so often resurfacing with a new innovation to counteract some of these problems. The most popular and successful twist on the electric car has been the hybrid car, which runs partially on gas and partially on the electric car battery.

The hybrid car cuts back on gas and electric battery charging pollution and the amount you spend on gas and utilities, but combined, they're still not far from the pollution and cost of maintaining a gas-powered car. Still, hybrid cars allow for a bigger size vehicle and for top speeds on highways.

If you're thinking about buying an electric car, make sure that all of these inconveniences are worth it and that the reason you're buying an electric car--you want to cut back on pollution, for example--is actually worthwhile. If you want to send a message about oil and cut back on gas consumption, you might want to look into a hybrid car instead.

Theory test, Mock theory test, Driving Theory test

DSA has released new driving theory test questions for the Car and Motorcycle theory
test from 3rd September 07. The Driving Theory Test is a test which United Kingdom learners must pass to obtain a full driving license. The test was introduced in July 1996. There are two subtly different tests, one for car drivers and one for motorcyclists. In Great Britain it is administered by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and in Northern Ireland by the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA). The car and motorcycle theory test lasts 57 minutes and involves answering 50 multiple-choice questions about a wide range of 'driving topics', such as car or bike mechanics, the Highway Code and driving law. 43 of the 50 questions must be answered correctly in order to pass. For lorries and buses 60 questions are asked over a 70 minute period in which 51 out of 60 must be answered correctly to pass. It is immediately followed by a hazard perception test. Having passed these two exams, a certificate is issued, which can then be used to book the practical driving test within two years of the theory pass. It is necessary to pass all three parts, theory, hazard perception and practical, in order to obtain a driving licence.

Having passed these two exams, a certificate is issued, which can then be used to book the practical driving test within two years of the theory pass. It is necessary to pass all three parts, theory, hazard perception and practical, in order to obtain a driving licence. The theory test was last revised on the 3rd September 2007 to include 50 questions (with a pass mark of 43), instead of the previous 35.

Hazard Perception Test
Examinees watch fourteen one-minute clips filmed from the perspective of a car driver and have to indicate, usually by clicking a mouse button or touching the screen, when they observe a developing hazard. All of the clips will include one developing hazard, and one will include two such hazards. The sooner an examinee reacts to a developing hazard, the more points are scored, from five down to one, with no score if the examinee reacts too late. The maximum score possible is 75.For the purposes of the test, a "developing hazard" is defined as something which requires the driver to adjust speed and/or direction. Potential hazards are hazards that no immediate action needs to be taken, but are worth observing in case their status changes.
Clicking on potential hazards is acceptable, but the scoring window only opens if that hazard develops, thus examinees have to remember to react if the status of a hazard changes, and not just when the potential hazard is first spotted.

The hazard perception test and the theory test are taken together and must both be passed in the same sitting for the applicant to become elligible to take the practical driving test in order to obtain a full driving licence.

Practical Driving Test
A Practical Driving Test is a test which United Kingdom learner drivers must pass to obtain a driving licence. Different tests are available for users of different vehicles, from car drivers, to motorcyclists and HGV drivers. In Great Britain it is administered by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and in Northern Ireland by the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA). It is necessary to have passed a UK Driving Theory Test and a UK Hazard Perception Test before sitting this exam. Passing this test then entitles one to hold a full UK driving licence.

Practical Driving Test Format
The practical test is taken on the road, with the examiner directing the candidate around a pre-determined (but unknown to the candidate) route. The examiner marks the candidate for driving faults (commonly called minor faults or minors), serious faults, and dangerous faults (collectively referred to as major faults or majors). A candidate will fail the test if he or she accumulates any "major" faults, or more than fifteen "minors". If a candidate acquires several (three or more) driving faults in the same category, the examiner may consider the fault a recurring and dangerous habit and mark a serious fault in that category. The test usually lasts 30 to 48 minutes in a standard test, or one hour when the candidate is taking a test after having their licence revoked.

Eyesight Test
Before getting to the car, the examiner will ask the candidate to read a car's number plate at a distance. The distance required is 20.5 metres for an old-style plate (A123ABC) and 20 metres for a new style plate (AB51ABC). If the candidate needs glasses to do this then these must be the ones worn whilst completing the rest of the test. If the candidate fails to read the first number plate correctly, then the examiner asks the candidate to read a second number plate. If the candidate cannot correctly read the second number plate, then the examiner must use a tape measure to measure the correct distance between the candidate and a third number plate. If the candidate cannot read the third number plate, then the candidate is deemed to have failed and the test will not continue.

Show me, tell me"
Before the candidate is taken out onto the road, the examiner asks two basic questions about car maintenance and safety. These are always phrased in the form "Show me..." and "Tell me..."; for example: *Show me how you would check that the power assisted steering is working before starting a journey. *Open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine oil level and tell me how you would

check that the engine has sufficient oil. A failure to answer one or both of these questions correctly would result in a minor driving fault being marked against the candidate.

Maneuvers
During the test, the examiner will ask the candidate to carry out any TWO manoeuvres from the following list:

Turn in the road
Reverse around a corner to the left or right Bay park (only in test centre car park) Parallel park by the side of the road The examiner may also, optionally, ask the candidate to carry out an emergency stop exercise.

Maneuvers are selected at random by the examiner selecting a sheet at the test centre, which also determines the test route, and if an emergency stop is done (1 in 3). Candidates taking the test after having their licence revoked must carry out ALL manoeuvres.

General driving
Usually, the time taken in finding an appropriate place for the candidate to carry out the two manoeuvres and driving to an appropriate stretch of road bearing the national speed limit satisfies the minimum amount of time required on the test. This naturally involves a certain amount of general town driving, during which faults can be gained. If the minimum amount of time has not been satisfied, the candidate may be asked to drive around to satisfy it. The candidate will also be asked to pull up on the left of the road and stop before moving off again on a gradient, on the flat and behind a parked car.

Feature Of Theory test 1.Driving Theory test questions will increase 2.No. of questions in the exam currently 35 will increase to 50 3.Pass mark will be 43 4.Allotted time to complete test will be 57 min 5.DSA exam fees increase from £21.50 £28.50 6.No change in HPT.

Tips On Choosing Discount Tires

There is a saying by a famous tire manufacturer Michelin: "So much is riding on your tires." This is true no matter if you're driving a sport coupe or an electric scooter. Cheap tires can damage a great car, and great tires can do wonders for a worn out vehicle. Luckily, today, thanks to technological advances, you can buy a great set of discount tires and still be quite happy about them.

If you understand that you have to buy new tires, you have a few options. The easiest way is to buy the exact size and brand of tires that your vehicle had when you picked it at the dealership. However, you may choose to upgrade your tires depending on what driving conditions you currently have or foresee. There are many reasons to change the tires for a different model.
While some people look for a new design they may simply change the wheel and use the same tires as before. Some people prefer to wait till they need new tires and then they upgrade for a larger diameter of the wheel and new tires at once.

When choosing your new discount tires you should honestly evaluate your driving needs and habits. If you really want to enjoy your ride, you need to find a reliable discount tire store which will not push you towards the most expensive make, but rather help you pick the brand that does justice to your car while remaining within your budget. The type of the tire also depends on the driving conditions you normally drive in.

Here are some factors you should consider when choosing your discount tire set:
Tread life of the tires will determine how long a set of tires would last. Life expectancy of the tires is estimated by the manufacturer under governmental guidelines after a field testing. The higher the tread life grade, the longer the tire will last.

Wet weather tires are essential if you live in a climate where it rains often. Four-season tires are the best option for wet climates. If it snows often, then you should also have a set of winter tires that you will switch for during the colder season.

Speed rating is an often underestimated factor in choosing the right set of discount tires. In the USA the speed limit hardly ever climbs over 75mph. In Europe the lovers of speedy rides can really get loose, but in North America you can hardly ever need a tire capable to ride over 100mph - even though you will not likely need to drive this fast. Speed ratings show the safe top speed of a tire and are marked with letters, with Q as lowest and V as highest. You can always go for the ultra-performing tire for speedy sports cars, but this quality is something that you will almost never use.

High- or low-profile? Low-profile tires look really stylish but these tires cannot always bear the hardships of the real road with all the bumps and cracks. Plus, with low-profile tires the wheel is getting damaged faster. Higher-profile tires often mean a safer and smoother ride.

That's the basics on tires, which you need to know before you start looking for a discount tire store, either online or offline. Even if you choose to go discount, it's really hard to buy a truly awful set of tires. Usually all tires on the market today can be touted as bad or good depending on how you use them and how you drive your car. Be honest with your expectations and choose the best discount set of tires you can afford.

Buying Your First Classic Car

Buying your first classic car may be one of the biggest purchases of your life. It is nothing like buying a daily transportation vehicle, and can be overwhelming for many first time buyers.
Between juggling your budget, your time, your space, your mechanical abilities, and future plans with the car, you have a lot of decisions to make.

Your first decision of course is deciding what model and year you want. Although this decision may seem easy, once you dig down into finances and other variables, this decision can stop dead in its tracks. What you want and what you can afford may be two different numbers far apart.
You need to look online and check other resources for current going prices of the classic car(s) you are interested in, and see if it fits your budget. If your goal is to have a fully restored piece of driving art, you need to take this into consideration. Restoration prices can be expensive, especially if you do not do it yourself. If you do the restoration work yourself, you can be looking at a lot of your valuable time being used. If you are not interested in having your newly bought classic car up on blocks for several years, you may want to factor in the cost of buying a fully restored car, which of course will up the cost of any car you purchase.

Another excellent idea for anyone buying a classic car, whether it is your first or tenth, is to visit a local car club. Here you will meet people that already own the car you want, and you can learn valuable tips from them. They have already bought the car you want, and many times they have bought more than one. Most car club members will be more than happy to talk to you about what to look for, share other tips, and even maybe point you in the direction of someone who is selling the classic car you want. Many times these cars will sell for more, but in general car club members "baby" their cars, and you will have a better chance of buying a real "gem".

Chances are, especially if you are looking for an exact model, i.e. special color, model, options, etc. in a classic car, you may have to search online. Ebay motors and craigslist are two excellent places to start. Buying a classic car online can be more work, but it can also be so much more rewarding, especially if you can find exactly what you are looking for. You need to be careful buying online, since there are scammers out there. If the selling price seems too good to be true, it probably is. Also be wary if they do not give out their phone number. Scammers like to use email only. Other red flags are sellers who are out of the country, sellers selling the car for someone else, or if the seller doesn't know answers to simple questions a classic car owner should know about their vehicle.

There are online companies that will go and inspect your classic car wherever it is, and send you extra pictures and a detailed inspection report of the vehicle. These can be a bit pricey depending on how much detailed information you want, but can also be very valuable in determining the real value of what you cannot see for yourself. Another idea is to check out car clubs or online classic car forums, and find someone in that area that is willing to go check out the car for you. There are many classic car fans willing to help out others.

The safest way of purchasing a car online is by using an escrow company. An escrow company acts as the "middle man" between the seller and buyer. After the seller and buyer agree to the price and the details of shipment, the buyer sends the full amount for the car to the escrow company. Once the cash is checked and verified by the escrow company, they notify the seller, and they send the car to the buyer by the agreed upon delivery choice. Once the buyer receives the car and inspects it to determine it is in the condition it was advertised as, they contact the escrow company who then sends the payment to the seller. If there are problems with either end of the deal, the escrow company will get involved. Prices I have seen average about $250 to $300 for a $50,000 transaction, and 0.6% over $50,000. That's a reasonable amount to pay to make your $50,000 purchase a safe one.

Once you have your car, your last step is to get it insured. Many classic car owners insure their vehicle with the same insurance company they have their daily transportation vehicle under. You are better off looking into a collector car insurance company. A simple search online will pull up many. The reasons to look into a collector car insurance company are lower premiums and an agreed value quote. Premiums can be as low as 50% lower than your current insurer, plus only collector car insurers will insure your classic car for its entire agreed value. Collector car insurers only deal with specialty cars, so they know how to set the correct value to a vehicle. They know to add extra value to vehicles with rare options, cars built by specialty builders, etc.
Following the guide above, you should be able to find the classic car of your dreams. Even though buying a classic car may involve a lot of work and research, in the end you will hopefully have a car that will bring you joy for many years down the road.

5 Important Tips For Motorcycle Maintenance For High Performance

Just imagine you're driving in the countryside and then suddenly your motorcycle breaks down & ruins your day. You may be thinking that u have checked everything and there should not be any problem right?

It is really important to do some checks if not regularly at least on some occasions when you are going for a long-drive or country side ride. So here are some tips on how to maintain your motorcycle so you don't need to haul your ride for which you'll be spending hundreds of dollars.

Fuel and Oil:

This is the most important thing, dispose of untreated gas older than 6 months rather than risk running it. Check your fuel line for damages due to weather or cracks etc. If you find any damages even minor replace it. Next thing is to check your fuel filter, make sure it is not clogged and looks clean and clear. If it is older then a year then it is better to replace it. Remember to turnoff the fuel tap when parking your motorcycle for longer duration, this prevents fuel from leaking out.

Make sure you regularly check and keep your oil level at its HIGH or MAX level. It is best to check your oil level on the bikes centre stand or when it is in a level position. An under filled oil level can be disastrous while too much oil over the limit may flood your air cleaner with oil. Regular oil and filter changes will keep your motorbike young and healthy.

Tires:The most common motorcycle breakdown is for tire damage, so make sure you check if your tires are properly inflated. An under-inflated tire produces a lot of heat which will result in blow out. Keep a mini tire gauge with you and important thing "use it". Second thing is to check for tread depth if it is 1-2mm then its time to replace your tires.

Brakes:
Really important not just for your ride but also for your safety. Change the brake fluids every year and your brakes will perform at their best. While changing brake fluids use only sealed one as brake fluids tends to absorb moisture. Also check the thickness of the brake pads and if it looks thin replace it. Otherwise if it goes down to metal, your brake disc may get damaged & ultimately result in unnecessary replacement fitting braided steel brake lines will also boost the performance of your brakes.

Chains:
Bike chains are never taut but must be able to sag between 3/4" to 1 1/4" at the mid-point between the two sprockets. The sag is used when the bike suspension moves up and down over uneven surfaces. Lubricate your bike chain with a chain spray. Ensure that you spray both left and the right hand side of the chain. Position a piece of newspaper so that you do not spoil the rear wheel rim as you spray. It is better to do this when you return from a ride and the chain is still warm. Use a second piece of paper on the floor to catch any drips. Wait five or ten minutes before you wipe all excess oil off the chain.

Battery
A battery requires a little monthly maintenance to perform perfectly. Check the fluid levels on each chamber of your battery, if you find any chamber low then fill it up in a well ventilated area with distilled or deionized water wear gloves and protective glasses while filling and Keep the battery charged to 100%. Check cables, case & clamps for any loose connections or damages, clean terminals & connectors and at last finish up by testing the battery with either a voltmeter or hydrometer.

Truck and Auto Accessories; Splash Guards

The main function of the mud flap is to keep dirt, slush and other debris from being kicked up by your truck's tires, protecting both your truck and the windshields of the drivers behind you. Usually, people don't pay much attention to mud flaps, but these days, the standard variety of truck and auto accessories have become yet another form of automotive self-expression.

The most iconic of these truck and car accessories characters is simply known as "The Mud Flap Girl". We've all seen her before: She's the buxom silver silhouette of a long-legged beauty lounging with one leg provocatively crossed over the other, hair blowing in the wind. Bill Zinda of Wiz Enterprises in Long Beach, California, created this famous character to promote his line of truck and auto accessories and based the character upon a famous model named Leta Laroe.

Another famous character to make an appearance on these truck and car accessories is Yosemite Sam pointing his two cartoon pistols with a caption beneath declaring, "Back Off!" or, "All Fired Up". Other Warner Brother characters have also made appearances, such as a frightened Daffy Duck and an overly upset Tweety Bird.

These mud flap characters are so engrained in our psych that they have gone beyond truck and car accessories and began appearing in commercials together. One famous commercial created for the Superbowl in 2006 had the Mud Flap Girl and Yosemite Sam driving away in a Honda Ridgeway.

Sadly, it appears that both of these figures have been targeted by legislation, when officials in Arizona tried to pass a ban on the two icons on the grounds of political correctness (one promoting sex and the other promoting gun violence). For the time being, the legislation on these truck and auto accessories has been struck down.

As long as that law doesn't pass, you can find quality auto accessories and mud flaps that can have anything on them from your favorite sports team logo to the picture of your dog.

Manufacturers know a good thing when they see it, and customized truck and auto accessories, such as mud flaps are big money makers. If you don't want Yosemite Sam or the Mud Flap Girl, you can have your own mud flaps customized with whatever you want on quality materials to continue protecting your truck and showing everyone who you are at the same time.

The most popular use of custom mud flaps nowadays are for company cars. If you've ever been caught behind a large semi on the highway, or maybe stuck in traffic behind a moving van, you may have noticed that mud flaps are an effective advertising tool. Most companies spend a little extra in this truck and auto accessory to manipulate their vehicles to carry their company name and phone number on mud flaps.

More than mere truck and auto accessories, mud flaps can be a unique form of showing off who you are or acting as a clever bit of advertising. Never before have truck and car accessories been so interesting, versatile and amusing - while it protects!

Preparing your Vehicle for Winter

As the winter season inevitably approaches, you may find yourself taking advantage of the remaining warm days, digging coats and scarves out of hibernation and dusting off the snow shovel in preparation for the upcoming season. As the days become shorter and the temperature drops, preparing your vehicle to endure the unpredictable weather of the winter season is another important precaution you can take to protect the safety of yourself and your family. Below we examine some areas of consideration that may help you prepare your vehicle to endure the frigid months ahead:

-Mechanical check-up: A basic check for proper functioning of your vehicle's battery, windshield wipers and fluid, all lights, defroster, exhaust system, brakes, thermostat and heater can give you insight into what systems and components may benefit from maintenance or replacement before the winter weather arrives in full force. Now is a good time to perform any preventative maintenance you may have put off. Repair or replace damaged belts, hoses or other components if needed to protect against a needless breakdown in dreadfully cold temperatures.

-Proper type and level of coolant: Coolant is comprised of a combination of water and anti-freeze, which when used in the correct proportions will resist freezing. However, improper mixtures of water and anti-freeze can result in a freeze with the potential to cause serious damage to your engine. Ensure that the coolant in your vehicle is mixed correctly and suitable for the weather conditions in your area. It is also beneficial to repair any leaks that may be present and change your vehicle's coolant as recommended by the manufacturer.

-Adapt your vehicle to the climate in your area. If you have recently moved to a new area, you may want to consider exercising any precautions that the wise and seasoned drivers living in your area suggest. In extremely cold climates, this may mean having a block heater installed to ensure that your vehicle starts on even the coldest of mornings. A set of snow tires may also be a sensible purchase for those living in areas that receive regular snowfall. The proper precautions to take will depend on the climate in the area in which you live. In Minnesota, for instance, snow tires are practically a necessity, while in southern Florida, not so much.

-Emergency stockpile. Hopefully, your meticulous preparation will pay off with an incident free winter of driving. But just as uncertain as the winter weather is whether your car will break down in the midst of it, and being prepared with some key safety items can improve your defense against the elements in the event that you become stranded. A first aid kit can come in handy year round, but storing a few additional supplies in your trunk for the winter season is a good idea. A strong ice scraper, ice brush, jumper cables, working flashlight, blanket, extra warm clothing, emergency road flares and sand or other material for traction are a few of the items that may be included in a winter emergency kit.

Even when your vehicle is fully prepared to brave a winter storm, the surest way to stay safe is avoiding driving in adverse conditions whenever possible, and practicing tremendous caution at times when driving is necessary.

Classic mud flap characters have become such a part of pop culture, that they've moved out of the arena of car accessories, and started appearing in commercials and on TV. One such commercial appeared during the 2006 Superbowl, and featured the Mud Flap Girl and Yosemite Sam driving off in a Honda Ridgeway.

Arizona officials were apparently not amused, and have proposed legislation banning both cartoon creatures due to a perceived political incorrectness, regarding sex and guns. Currently, the legislation about truck and car accessories has been thwarted.

This means that auto accessories and mud flaps can be embellished with the image of your choice. And this will remain to be true, as long as that law doesn't pass.

Manufacturers know a good thing when they see it, and customized truck and car accessories such as mud flaps are big money makers for truck and auto accessories. If you don't want Yosemite Sam or the Mud Flap Girl, you can have your own mud flaps customized with whatever you want on quality materials to continue protecting your truck and showing everyone who you are at the same time.

Currently, custom mud flaps seem to be most popular on company vehicles. Anyone ever caught behind an 18 wheeler on the highway or following a commercial van in city traffic, knows how effective a custom mud flap can be, if it used as an advertising tool. Companies wisely invest a little extra money in this truck and auto accessory, thus creating a advertisement on wheels that proudly displays the company name and phone number on eye catching mud flaps.

There is a lot to be said about these protective rubber truck and car accessories hanging off the back of someone's truck or car. Truck and auto accessories have never been so versatile, useful, and smart as mud flaps. Choose your design, spruce up your truck, and head on out to show off your style!

Save the World with an Automobile Electric Car

Ok, so an automobile electric car won't solve all the world's problems on its own, but it can help reduce CO2 emissions and dependence on fossil fuels, including foreign oil sources. More manufacturers have been focusing on the development of hybrid and electric cars over the last few years and kits can help you convert a regular automobile to an electric one if you wanted to go that route. With an electric car, you'll be saving money and helping the environment at the same time.

Electric cars have a number of advantages that you should consider if you are debating between a regular automobile and an electric car. The obvious first advantage is that electric cars are better for the environment than gas fueled cars. You'll be releasing few emissions into the air (in fact, all emissions from electric cars come from producing the electricity and not actually running the car.)

Another advantage is that many people like is that electric cars have fewer parts that need repair and with several batteries onboard plus an on-board generating device, you won't have to worry about running out of fuel. Imagine having to spend less time at the repair shop or getting oil changes. You'll also generally have enough power in a back up situation to get you somewhere safe, rather than having to wait for a tow truck along side the road.

Electric cars are also very efficient. Unlike regular fuel powered cars that need extra power to run at slower speeds or to take off from a dead stop, electric cars are at full, rated power regardless of the speed that you're going. The cars generally do not need transmissions and even if they do have one, it operates very efficiently.

Regenerative braking on electric cars also means that you'll recoup some of the power used to run your car when the wheels are moving on their own, such as when going downhill. The wheels are, in effect, sending power back to the car under this circumstance. This will help you save battery power and money over time.

Most electric cars will also end up saving you thousands of dollars each year. Although you may think that you need to spend a lot of money to get one, there are very reasonable models out there or you can convert a car that you already own. The savings will continue as you use the car.

Electric cars often use only around 50 cents a day when they are powered up each night. In addition, think about how much money you'll save by not having to pay high gas prices every time you need to fill up the gas tank on a regular car. Over time, these savings add up to a pretty good amount, allowing you to save the money or spend it on other things.

Automobile electric cars aren't for everyone right now, but they do offer some interesting and useful advantages for many people. If you haven't considered one or are debating between one and a regular car, take a closer look at the many advantages offered by an electric car, including spending less money on gas and helping to save the world a little bit at a time.

Solving Car Air Conditioning Problems

Although many people regard car air conditioning units as a luxury, the truth is the majority of cars are now sold with air conditioning fitted at the factory. People travel for longer periods of time and personal comfort within a vehicle is becoming more and more important.

Unfortunately, many vehicle manufacturers don't include servicing your car air conditioning system in their standard maintenance programme, so it's important to know whether or not your car air conditioning unit is working normally, in order to avoid paying unnecessary and over-the-top fees for work and parts.

Probably one of the most common car air conditioning problems is that the car air conditioning unit installed in your car is not cooling the air properly.

Car air conditioning systems work by forcing the hotter air within a vehicle outside, thus lowering the inside temperature, cooling, drying, and clarifying the air in the process.

As time passes, the refrigerant used by car air conditioning systems diminishes by around 15% each year. During winter, when the car air conditioning unit is not being used, certain seals can dry out, causing the productivity of the air conditioning unit within the vehicle to gradually deteriorate, finally rendering it useless.

Luckily, this is more a frustrating problem than a serious one, and easily fixed by mobile auto repair and re-gas service companies , who can check for leakages and replenish refrigerant tanks quickly, easily, and affordably.

Another common car air conditioning problem is bacteria, which can build up when the air conditioning system within a motor car isn't being used very often. If left untreated, fungi and micro-organisms can make their homes behind the dashboard, the spores of which are believed to contribute significantly to "sick car syndrome".

Treatment by a SMART repair specialist can eliminate the growth and restore a fresh smell to the interior, in a relatively short amount of time and for a fraction of the price it would cost to replace the car air conditioning system within your vehicle.

Should you hear strange noises emanating from the air conditioning unit in your car, you should have it checked immediately.

A regular clicking sound may simply be the pump turning on and off. However, any sound that is irregular may indicate further damage to the car air conditioning compressor, which could cost in excessive of £500 in some cases!

By getting a trained vehicle air conditioning specialist to look at your car air conditioning system when you think you might have a problem, you can ensure that any damage is caught at the earliest stage and treated immediately, lowering costs and possible inconvenience in the near future.

Of course some car air conditioning problems are not real problems at all. Water dripping under the car is simply the draining of the evaporation from the car air conditioning unit and a standard feature, so nothing to worry about.

Sometimes, the tube for this evaporated water drain can get blocked, in which case the condensation remains in the evaporator and the car becomes excessively misty or the carpets damp.

Again, a SMART car repair technician will be able to fix the problem quickly and effectively.

Even smaller models of such well-known manufacturers including Mercedes and BMW can benefit from having an examination of their car air conditioning unit by a mobile auto repair and re-gas service company, should their drivers sense that something is not quite right.
By tending to your car air conditioning problems early, you can save yourself a lot of time, money and frustration!

Steve Magill is the Managing Director of LVV Services Ltd. which is located in South Wales.Covering Cardiff, Swansea , Newport ,Bridgend and surrounding areas. http://www.lvvservices.com He advises all car owners against any technician who suggest that they can service the Air con system in less than an hour. This probably means they are taking shortcuts and will not do a professional job.

What Should I Look Out For When Buying a Used and Cheap Car Online?

In an ideal world, everyone would be able to buy a new car in their preferred color, brand, make and model. Unfortunately, many people lack the resources to do that so they resort to buying a used and cheap car instead. If you are buying online, what should you be aware of?
One important reason is that it is convenient. Some websites act as one-stop shops that not only sell used and cheap cars, but they also supply vehicle parts and accessories, sell car insurance, or may even help you secure inexpensive loans so you can buy your used and cheap car. If you are like many people who lack the time and energy to visit used car lots everyday before you can get a good deal, looking for a used and cheap car online sounds like a good option.
However, visiting used car lots in real-time has an advantage over online services - at least you get to see the real car as it really is, and may even get to test it out while you're there. When you use online services, you have to take the dealer's word for it that a) the vehicle in the website picture gallery is the one you will actually be buying, b) that it is functional and in good condition, and c) that the dealer won't pull a fast one and raise the price while you are waiting for confirmation of your order. Unfortunately, used car dealers are just as human as the rest of us, so it shouldn't surprise you that a few bad eggs come with the batch.

The advantage though of going online to find a used and cheap car that fits your specifications is that you may be able to visit many websites within one day. You get to examine their quotations, terms and conditions, and the specifications of each vehicle in less time than would be actually consumed if you were driving from used-car lot to used-car lot. So either way, you see that there is a trade-off that comes with either option.

Another advantage that many people love about shopping on the Internet is that they may do more in-depth research about a) the car that they want, and b) the used-car dealer operating on the Internet. If the dealer doesn't have the information you want on his website, there are many people who offer that information for free on their personal websites. You might even want to consult personal blogs and news forums, where the car-loving Internet community post their opinions about cars (both new and used), car prices, and dealers of all hues and stripes. If you ask around the online world, somewhere somehow you will probably find someone who can help you understand more about the transaction you are entering into.

The basic rule of thumb then which applies to buying a used and cheap car online (or even in real-time) is: always take the dealer's claims with a grain of salt. If you don't consider yourself an expert on used and cheap cars, find someone who is and get information from him. That should help you avoid a lot of pitfalls along the way.

Defensive driving techniques are not restricted to technical driving skills and tactics. One of the simplest and most effective defensive driving techniques to protect yourself as a driver or a passenger is to ALWAYS wear a seat belt. It is well proven that seat belts save lives, and drivers should learn all they can about seat belt safety facts.

Research has shown that vehicle occupants have a 40 percent better chance of surviving a crash if they are wearing a seat belt (this statistic is dependent upon the severity of the crash - some crashes are so severe that survival is impossible). However, in many crashes seat belts play a major role in reducing injuries. Each year around 20 per cent of all road fatalities were people not wearing a restraint. Hundreds of other people are disabled for life in road accidents where they were not wearing a seat belt.

SEAT BELT SAFETY FACT #1
Seat belts protect drivers and passengers in a number of ways, such as:
1. Decreasing the time it takes an occupant to come to a stop upon impact 2. Minimizing a person's contact with the interior of the vehicle 3. Spreading the force of the impact over a greater area of the body 4. Preventing ejection from the vehicle.

SEAT BELT SAFETY FACT #2
If you are the driver, before the car starts moving you need to make sure of the following:
1. Your own seat belt is properly fastened and adjusted to fit firmly 2. Your passengers' seat belts are properly fastened and adjusted firmly 3. Children traveling in the car are properly restrained.

If you are a passenger, before the car starts moving make sure you have:
1. Properly fastened and adjusted your seat belt 2. Encourage the driver and other passengers to buckle up.

SEAT BELT SAFETY FACT #3
Being pregnant is no reason not to wear a seat belt. Wearing a seat belt means you are protecting both yourself and your unborn baby if you are involved in a crash. Here are a few tips for comfortably and correctly wearing a seat belt whilst pregnant:

1. Place the lap sash part of the belt under the baby bulge, as low as possible. The lap part of the seat belt should sit over the upper thighs, not across the bulge.
2. It is often possible to adjust the angle of the seat belt by using a seat belt locator.
3. Make sure the sash part of the belt is in between the breasts.

SEAT BELT SAFETY FACT #4
Children must be restrained in a restraint suited to their size and weight. The restraint must be correctly and securely fitted to the car. In certain cars it is possible to fit an additional lap belt to accommodate a fourth small child in the back seat. Lap belts are not recommended on their own, but are safe if used in conjunction with a properly fitted child harness.

Before moving children from a booster seat into an adult seat belt, certain conditions should be met.

1. The adult seat belt fits correctly. The lap part is low over the pelvis (not the stomach) and the sash does not touch the child's face or neck and all slack is removed.

2. Lap/sash seat belts offer much greater protection than lap belts. Where possible put your child in a seating position with a lap/sash belt.

3. Children riding in school buses must wear a seat belt if one is available. Only one seat belt per person must be used.

SEAT BELT SAFETY FACT #5
Seat belts must always be kept in good condition. Car owners should check the condition of seatbelts in their vehicle as a standard part of vehicle maintenance routine. The following things should be checked:

1. The seat belts themselves are not twisted, cut or frayed.

2. The buckles are in good working order, engaging and releasing properly.

3. The retractors work properly. The seat belt should pull out smoothly and be fully retracted when not in use.

In many countries, such as Australia, it is illegal not to wear a seat built. By law, every person travelling in a car must wear a seat belt if one is available. Tough penalties apply for those who break the law. More and more countries around the world are embracing this fact, and the message about the importance of "buckling-up" is being spread loud and clear.

Wearing seat belts is clearly one of the easiest defensive driving techniques a driver or passenger can employ, and learning all the seat belt safety facts is the best place to start.

How to maintenance the engine of used car or new car ?

Vehicles need maintenance on a regular basis to keep them running smoothly. By doing regular maintenance on your used car or new car, you will have a car that always runs better, you will be able to catch any problems early, and your car will last much longer than if you did not. New cars maintenance is relatively simple. Since you are starting with a new car you can read the manual that comes with the vehicle (it's usually left in the glove box) make sure you get the manual when you purchase the new vehicle. The manual should tell you how often you need to do certain maintenance procedures and even when you should replace items.

Used cars maintenance can be a little more difficult because you really have no idea how the prior owner did the maintenance, if he or she did any regular work on the car at all. Some people actually keep a log or receipts for when they bring their car in for maintenance so that can be a huge help. You can be pretty sure that you will not get the manual when you buy a used car. So, this means you will have to depend on routine maintenance that is quite general and not geared specifically towards your particular car.

General Maintenance And Car Care -
Check your fluids on a regular basis. Once a week before you drive your vehicle check the engine oil, transmission fluid, washer fluid, antifreeze, brake fluid, etc. Keep extra fluids in your car and in your garage so you have them when you need them. For used cars, the leak of engine oil or brake fluid can happen. That's why I suggest better check regularly your engine and brake of your used car. Make sure the engine and the brake always clean and dry from the leak of oil or fluid. Beside for your safety, also for the performance of your car engine.

Make sure your tire pressure is always where it should be. You should check this at least once a month. This will help keep your tires longer and save you some money on gas. Check with your auto mechanic to see where your tire pressure should be. It is different for different tires and cars.

Bring in your new or used car for regular maintenance. You should have your car in with your mechanic on a regular basis to make sure that there are no problems and that everything is running smoothly.

Once a month have someone help you check your lights, especially for used cars. Make sure they check every one including your blinkers. A good indication that you have a light out is if your blinker seems to be blinking really fast. By doing this you can avoid being pulled over and keep all of your lights working as they should be. A simple brake light out can be quite dangerous.

Check your windshield wipers about every three months or when the season changes. They will need to be replaced at least once a year, of not more. If you find any tears in them, replace them right away. Used cars that have not change the windshield wipers for almost 1 year, the wipers can make a scratch on the windshield that can decrease the value of you car or the wipers can't wipe the raindrop on the windshield very clean so you can't see the road clearly.
This can be quite dangerous.

If your brakes are squeaking or just do not feel the same to you get them checked out right away.

If there is a loud noise that seems to be coming from underneath your car you probably have a leak in your exhaust. Take it in to get it fixed. For used cars, this can be happen.

Check for rust and get it fixed right away. Surface rust can be easily fixed. However, if you don't get it fixed you will get holes in your vehicle that brings the value way down. You can also prevent rust by keeping your new or used car in a garage, washing it regularly to remove debris, and keeping it dry - inside and out.

Buying a new or used car

Buying a New or Used Car, the tricks you should know about!

There are tricks to buying a new car or used car at a reasonable price. Dealerships and private sellers rarely mark the car's price at it's actual worth. Instead, they mark the price up so that they can clear a good profit for themselves, or to be able to offer their salesmen better incentives to sell the cars for them.

Whatever the reason, almost all dealerships can be talked down on their prices, if you know how to haggle properly. Being a good negotiator doesn't have to be difficult. At some time or other everyone has to negotiate with someone if they want to get a good deal on a purchase.
When negotiating with a car dealer, you should know that they are very practiced in the art already. You need to know how to get through their "car speak" in order to be successful.

You Must Watch out for 'Dealer Scams' They might say "I hate to tell you this but we have another offer on the table from a man that is willing to pay much more money than this." Tell them you don't want to take another persons deal and walk away!

When you go into a dealership, you need to know all of the new car pricing and costs or second hand car pricing, of the car that you are looking into buying. For new cars you should know the dealer's cost and the manufacturer's cost.

So many people get scammed after they have already closed the deal. They get you on the extras and the warranties at that point. The extras are things like scotch guarding, rust proofing, etc. It seems pretty straight forward but you would be surprised at how many people get taken on these tricks . The trickiest closing scam is the extended warranty, because the language used is so confusing. This is not the factory warranty for the car. Do not let them confuse you. Make sure that you completely understand what is on offer and the cost. Then decide if it is worth it for you.

DO NOT use dealer finance. A good car loan company should be able to give you an instant free quote. Many of these companies will provide between 90% to 100% of the purchase value of the car. Typically the car loan is repaid over a period of three to eight years, five being the most popular.

DO NOT let the Dealer provide your Insurance. Use a specialist car insurance broker - there are several websites where you can compare car insurance deals and brokers can do this comparison for you quicker and taking into account more car insurance providers than you can by yourself.

Depending on where you're located, it may be possible for you to save a substantial amount of money by buying a car online. As long as you choose a reputable source, it's possible to save money this way.

Remember, when you buy a car online you cannot test out the car you're interested in, so only buy online once you've driven the car (try it out at a dealership first).

6 Tips About Extended Warranties For Your Automobile

Extended warranties are an "extension" of an automobile's service plan. They are very similar to automobile insurance and are there to help protect your investment. That is way many people are turning to extended warranties for that peace of mind in the event your investment needs a costly repair.

But like any other insurance, you get what you pay for and trying to save a few dollars may not get you the coverage you need. The following are some basic tips to keep in mind when you are considering an extended warranty policy.

1. The first this you should ask yourself is whether or not you need an extended warranty.

On average, most automobile manufacturers offer a 3 year or 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. However, if your drive more the 12,000 mile per year and plan to keep your vehicle for a long time, then an extended warranty may be what you are looking for to get that peace of mind.

2. How reliable is your car?

You should take a look at the reliability history of your automobile. Even though this not fail-safe, it will give you an idea of how much service you can expect. This information should be kept in mind when looking at an extended warranty.

3. What is the track record and history of the company?

Here are some question to ask yourself about the company:

- How long have they been in business? - How quickly do they payout to get a repair? - Do they offer roadside assistance? - Are there testimonials from other consumers you can read? - What is they standing with Better Business Bureau and other consumer watchdogs?

4. What about the repairs, can they be done at any repair shop?

It's best to choose an extended warranty that, at the very least, gives you more than one service facility to choose from. You'll most certainly appreciate this if your vehicle ever need service while you're on a road trip, miles away from home.

5. How do you know which plan is right for you?

If you want bumper-to-bumper coverage the up front cost will be higher, but this offers the most coverage. If you select a higher deduction per repair and you automobile is trouble prone, you may end up spending more money in the long run. Read the fine print!

Here are some questions to ask when selecting a plan:

- Is the plan transferable or renewable? - Where can you have the repairs done? - Do you have to outlay cash up front for the repairs and wait for a reimbursement? - Does the plan offer any roadside assistance? If you travel a lot or have long commutes, this type of plan may be just right for you. With travel assistance you can get:

- car rental reimbursement - food and lodging - flat tires repaired - gas if you run on empty - a tow - and etc.

6. If you make the decision to get an extended warranty, there are three type to choose from:

- Manufacturer: typically, no problems about the cost of a repair but this has the highest up front costs and repair shop might be limited in your area. - Dealer: has a lower up front cost and you get the plan at the same place you bought the vehicle, but there is usually only one point of service for repairs. - Independent: has the lowest up front costs, typically 30% to 50% lower than manufacturers and dealers, however, coverage may not be as expected.

Your decision to get an extended warranty depends on how much peace of mind you want and need. If you are worried you may not have enough cash for an expensive repair or you don't like to deal with an auto repair shop, or you cannot be without a car for more than a day, then an extended warranty may be just for you. What A Few Car Accessories Can Do For Your Car

In this day and age, the car is one of the most prized possessions an individual may own.
Therefore, it is quite natural to encounter a host of consumers looking for the latest in car accessories meant to elevate the appearance and performance of their vehicle. Some people have no idea where to start when seeking a new addition to their car, while others systematically tweak their automobile in regards to the six main categories of car accessories:

1) Exterior
The first thing an outsider sees when a car rides by is the exterior, which may display a custom paint job or personalized car accessories that grab the eye. Some people aim to produce the most unique car exterior by adding an assortment of car trimmings, including hood shields, customized headlight covers, window visors, and spoilers. Many car accessories are able to combine purpose with style, such as sunguards, which protect the rear window against harsh weather conditions. Other selections are simply for show, like fender flares, hood scoops, or decorative license plates.

2) Interior
Once inside of a vehicle, there are a host of car accessories that heighten the overall experience of a driver and their passengers. Most noticeably, seat covers allow car owners to make a statement, as a wide-range of possibilities on the market are made to match car colors and personality. Additionally, colorful and decorative shift knobs, racing pedals, mirrors, and steeling wheels further the interior of a car.

3) Performance
Depending on the type of vehicle owned, a consumer might place emphasis on speed, while another is looking for car accessories that cause their car purr while in motion. Offering better performance, as well as a higher level of appearance, car owners often purchase the latest in mufflers, carburetors, camshafts, and exhaust systems. In order to enjoy enhanced horsepower and torque, a variety of supercharger kits line the market.

4) Electronics
Car owners of today outfit their vehicles with accessories that deliver entertainment while the car is both in motion and standing still. DVD players, mobile video, CD players, audio sound systems, as well as video game capabilities continue to push the envelope. Another realm of electronics to consider for the car includes enhanced vehicle security systems, keyless entry, and remote starters.

5) Custom Wheels
While chrome wheels and other customized selections are now becoming more and more common in stock vehicles, numerous car owners still have their eye on changing the look of their wheels. Today, the market offers great options that range from spinning selections to lighted variations made by companies, such as Fierro, Helo, Golden Wheels, and Asanti.

6) Lighting Accessories
Changing the shape as well as size and color of car lighting is becoming an increasing trend amongst car owners. Some car accessories permit lighting to shine on the bottom of the vehicle, while customized headlights are often used to tie an entire car appearance together. When looking for something quite different, TireFlys screw onto the valve stem of a car wheel and create an eye-catching "comet effect" that varies with speed. This colorful display is available in blue, green, red, as well as a patriotic red, white, and blue combination.

6 Effective Steps to Winterizing Your Car

Until moving to Florida, I spent the last dozen years or so in northern Utah, where the temperature begins to drop in October and doesn't rise again until sometime after April.
Because of the shorter days, for much of the winter months I would leave for work before the sun came up and not come home until it had set. As a result, the bulk of my drive time was accomplished in the dark and with temperatures hanging well below freezing. It goes without saying that these were not ideal conditions for having car trouble. This was particularly true for my wife, who more often than not was out hauling some or all of my offspring around on various errands. It was with this in mind that I took the following steps to ensure that our cars were in top shape to serve us through the winter season.

You can probably abbreviate this list somewhat if you live in one of the Sunbelt states, but any prevention is better than none, and you never know when Mother Nature is going to throw a curve ball your way.

1. Change the Oil.
Change the engine oil and make sure to put in the appropriate type. Like most liquids, oil thickens as the temps drop. When you go out and fire up your car in the morning, your oil is sitting in the bottom of the oil pan, thick as honey. This condition worsens the dirtier the oil is, and your engine has to work harder to circulate it until everything warms up properly. Switching to a thinner viscosity oil (see your owner's manual or ask) improves things considerably. Additionally, it's always a good idea to start off the winter driving season with a clean oil filter and good clean oil, because you're sure not going to be motivated to go out into a freezing garage to change it mid-season.

2. Check Hoses and Belts.
The car enthusiast will know how old a vehicle's belts and hoses are and whether or not a replacement is due, but most of you probably won't. Freezing conditions exacerbate any problems your car may be hiding in milder climates, and items like belts and hoses have a way of choosing the absolute worst time to fail. Feel along the length of your engine's belts for any cracks, splits, or frayed edges. If you find any, replace them. Feel the various hoses for the same issues, and replace as necessary. Don't forget to check your windshield washer fluid hoses as well.

3. Check that the Wipers are in Good Shape.
In Utah we'd go for months at a time in the summer without using the wipers, and once I found out too late that one of my wipers wasn't working, during the season's first snow storm. Don't make this mistake! Check that both the front and the rear wipers are working properly. If the blades have been on your car longer than a few months, replace them. It's a cheap and fast way to ensure good visibility for you and the family. Check that the washer fluid system works properly and is topped off. It's a great idea to keep some of that fluid in the trunk of your car as well. I shouldn't have to emphasize that visibility is of primary importance when operating a vehicle!

4. Check the Battery.
The number one type of car failure in the winter is a dead battery. Cold temperatures cut a battery's cranking power in half, even more so if the battery is getting old. These days batteries are essentially maintenance free and usually require replacement every five to seven years. As such, it's easy to forget all about them until they quit working. Don't give your battery a chance to strand you in the middle of a snowstorm! Check the battery posts and wires for corrosion, and clean them as needed (try pouring Coke, or a mixture of baking soda and water on corroded posts). If your battery is more than a couple years old, yank it out and have it tested at the local auto parts store. They'll do it for free. Oh, and make sure you've got some jumper cables in the trunk. With your battery in such fine shape now, you're probably gonna want to help out your neighbor who forgot to winterize his car.

5. Check the Tire Pressure.
This one is pretty simple, and the reality is that your tires won't go completely flat because of cold temperatures. The tire pressure will drop considerably, however, and this will affect the way your car handles, as well as put a dent in your mileage. You should be checking your tire pressure at least monthly anyway (slacker), but be sure to check it AFTER the temperatures have dropped. If the pressure is below the recommended amount (check the sidewall for recommended psi), add some air.

6. Put some Emergency Essentials in your car.

Have you seen just how nutty the weather has been these last few years? You never know when you're going to find yourself in the middle of a full blown weather butt-kicking, and you'll thank yourself later that you had the foresight to stow a few items ahead of time. This is an important step, particularly if you live in the Snowbelt states and even more particularly if you have children in the car. Put these things in your car now, please:

A) flashlight with good batteries
B) Jumper cables
C) ice scraper and some gloves
D) bag of rock salt, sand, gravel, landscaping bark, or kitty litter, for traction if you get stuck
E) Blanket or extra jacket
F) Washer fluid

It's also a great idea to keep your cell phone and a charger handy as well. Don't take your car for granted, and don't leave your family's safety to chance. Spend an hour or two with your car and then rest easy throughout those long winter months. Happy driving!

Insist On OEM Auto Body Parts

One of the easiest ways to get ripped off in the automotive world is by having a body shop use cheap, third-party auto body parts on your car repair. Like all auto parts, body parts have a tremendous markup, and if you don't know what you are doing, it can be easy to be taken advantage of by unscrupulous repair centers. Insisting on using OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts will secure that your repair job comes off perfectly, and you wind up with a vehicle that is "as good as new."
Unfortunately, fender-benders and accidents can happen, and at these times car owners can become understandably flustered and confused. The entire process of dealing with insurance companies, filing police reports, and seeking estimates from body shops can be a bit overwhelming. It's not surprising then, that many people just want to put the entire experience behind them, and they rush through the process of having their auto repaired.

But this can be a big mistake in several ways. For example, unless you specify the type of parts you would like to use on your repair, and are prepared to oversee the repair to make sure it is to your satisfaction, many body shops will use cheap, third world quality replacement auto body parts, lowering the value of your vehicle.

Why would a body shop knowingly do this? As usual, the answer comes down to money. If your insurance company reimburses the auto shop $2000 for the job, and they can buy a cheap "knock off" auto body parts for one third the cost of standard quality parts, this results in a great deal of profit to the body shop!

But while this may be wonderful for the body shop's bottom line, it is terrible for the car owner. You can easily wind up with substandard auto body parts on your car, or even parts that do not fit perfectly.

Of course, the best way to avoid all this is to use OEM car parts. You never have to concern yourself about either the quality or the fit of your auto body parts if you insist upon OEM. And if a body shop mechanic should attempt to talk you out of using OEM body parts, you should be very skeptical. The odds are, they are simply trying to lower their expenses in order to increase profits. Don't fall for it!

Other times, body shop mechanics will ensure you that they only use OEM body parts, but you still need to be diligent and examine the final work. Unfortunately, somebody shops will claim to use only OEM parts, but in reality they are substituting cheaper "knock offs" that wind up on your car. Besides being unethical and disreputable, this is also illegal and it is called fraud. If you discover a body shop misrepresenting the parts they are selling you, it is recommended that you contact both the police and the Better Business Bureau.

In general though, most body shops will gladly use OEM parts when requested. If you have any doubt about the reputation of the body shop, be sure to also get it in writing. That way you will have documentation if it should be needed to prove fraud or other wrongdoing in the future.

Insisting upon OEM auto body parts for your car repair will ensure your vehicle is returned to you in "factory new" condition.

How to Deal with a Motorcycle Accident

Motorcycle accidents are rapidly increasing every year, causing more injuries and deaths to motorcycle riders. A motorcycle accident is always a possibility for bikers no matter how slow they drive or how safe they try to be. Since motorcycles are small automobiles, bikers are very vulnerable on the road especially when it is in between bigger vehicles such as cars, trucks and buses. Sometimes, even another motorbike and pedestrians can make the motorcycles "defense-less" in the streets.

Negligence is the common cause of accidents involving motorcycles. Since they are small compared to typical vehicles on the road, they can easily be manoeuvred within traffic and can hit another vehicle at a very fast speed. Most motorists who are unable to stop just in time can meet an unfortunate collision. Weather also plays an important role in the safety of the bikers. Rain, snow, blizzard and other weather conditions leave hazardous roads not only for this two-wheeled vehicle but for all types of vehicles as well. The wheels of the motorcycle are always in a weak position whenever the road is slippery, making bikers accident-prone. Whatever reason for the mishap - the motorcycle riders are usually always left with the damages. These include physical damages such as bone injuries and bruises, as well as property damage brought about by the collision of both parties.

Perhaps when you encounter an accident like this, the last thing on your mind is to fill out necessary forms and reports and undergo police investigations asking about the incident. However, after a biker would brush off all the dust and debris from the collision, he must immediately assess himself on how much damage the accident caused him. This is where you start thinking of how to deal with the aftermath of the accident.

First off, keep a clear record in your mind of all the scratches, bruises, broken bones, and other injuries in case you have to file a compensation claim against the other party, especially if you know that the crash is not your fault but the other party's. It is your civil and legal right to have a compensation claim. It would help you get reimbursements of the money you've paid or will pay for hospital bills. It would also help you calculate the approximate loss of earnings if you will be unable to go to work because of the accident. Also, you could get a clear idea of the damages to your motorcycle and motorcycle accessories.

Secondly, whether you caused the accident or not, it is your duty to report the situation to a highway patrol officer or state trooper officer at once. Then, recall what exactly happened before and during the collision. It is very important to make this call because some states suspend driver's licenses if they discover that you did not make a report by the time the accident happened.

Thirdly, you need to take into account not only the damage done to the motorcycle, but also any damage done to accessories damaged in the accident such as motorcycle saddle bags. If you think that the destructed property value is more than $500, you must also make an effort to report to the department of motor vehicles in your state - even if takes you a day or two to do so. Don't rely on hearsays or second hand information especially since procedures are different from one state to another.

Fourthly, regardless of whose fault the accident was, bear in mind that the department of motor vehicles in your state could check not only your injuries and damaged properties but also the type of insurance protection you had during the time of the motorcycle crash. This is why it is advisable to have proper insurance coverage before hitting the roads with a motorcycle. Aside from all these, motorcycle accidents, in general, would also mean a permanent record in your driving profile.

Given all this, one can safely say that riding a motorcycle is truly a very serious business. Undergo proper training on motorcycle driving and always wear proper equipment such as helmets before attempting to get out on the road.

Electric Vehicle Kits: Build Your Own Electric Car

With rising fuel costs, more and more people and are looking for alternatives. One such alternative that is gaining popularity, especially with the do-it yourself types, are the electric vehicle kits. Anyone familiar with automobiles can now use these kits to convert traditional gas powered vehicles to one powered by electric current.
However, converting a traditional Gas powered vehicle into an electric vehicle can be a very daunting task. Only those who are the very mechanically minded should try this. To convert the vehicle will require extensive modifications to nearly all-mechanical parts of the car. Everything from the engine to the radiator, heater and air-conditioning, to the gauges on the panel. On top of that, the electric cars have to be recharged on a regular basis, which means having to purchase or use the services of recharging station. Solar power could be another potential source of power for the electric vehicle.

Can any car be converted into an electric vehicle?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Not all cars can be converted into an electric vehicle. However, and the most common electric vehicle kit seems to be the Chevy S-10 pick up kit. For examples to follow just do a search online for Chevy S-10 pickup Electric conversions. Other cars that are good candidates for conversion are the Chevy Geo, especially from 1989 to 1999. These cars are good potential candidates for an electric vehicle kit conversion. Cars similar to the Chevy Geo Metro, such as the Chevy Sprint, Pontiac Firefly and the Suzuki Swift are also ideal for conversions too.

Are there downsides to using an electric vehicle kit?

Going back a few years, many people associated electric powered vehicles with slowness and a lack of power. But as usual, thanks to technology, significant advances in the electric vehicle have changed all that. With these electric vehicle kits some cars can reach top speeds of between 70 and 75 mph. nonetheless, converting to electric power still has its drawbacks.

The biggest drawback it is of course the need for recharging the batteries. As an example, the Chevy Geo Metro kit must be recharged every 20 to 40 miles, depending on driving habits and battery quality. For city driving, this would be ideal. However, for lengthy commutes on the highway, this would not be ideal.

The Chevy S-10 with an electric vehicle kit installed will run a little longer on a single charge. On a single charge, the S-10 should last between 40 and 60 miles. Again this depends upon the driving habits as well as the size and quality of batteries. Some S-10 models can be equipped with solar powered panels which would in reduced in the need for charging, at least when driving during daylight hours.

Converting vehicles with electric vehicle kits is not a cheap affair. Most conversion kits seem to cost between $8000 to $10,000. And this does not even include professional installation as well as the cost of the batteries, not to mention access to or the purchase of a charging station.

Quite frankly, with the cost involved of using an electric vehicle kit, it probably wouldn't be very practical for the average consumer, especially if they do a lot of highway driving. However, that being said, it probably would be ideal for a back yard mechanic who loves to tinker with cars and has a few bucks to throw around and wants to impress his beer-drinking buddies.

5 Hot Tips for Buying a Recreational Vehicle

Your dream RV is your home on wheels. You will undoubtedly want it to be as comfortable and is as good condition as your regular home. Yes? Of course!!
Any home will have a few niggles like a squeaky door, occasional problems with the aircon or heating and so on. In other words, not perfect but pretty damn close. It will be the same with your motorhome, your dream RV. There are some pretty simple things that you can look for when buying your used RV that can get you close to the ideal (and save money). Here are our 5 hot RV buyers tips ...

Soft Spots

Check the flooring thoroughly for any soft spots. You are most likely to find these in the kitchen area and bathroom. If there is rotting of the flooring it probably indicates a long term water leak, as likely as not from the plumbing. To get the floor fixed and the leaks traced and fixed could be expensive.

Engine

Your dream RV will be doing a whole lotta miles - find out all you can about the engine history. Ask for the maintenance records, repair receipts and so on. Listen to the engine running with the hood up, see how it sounds, are there any strange rattles or other noises that should not be there? Did it start easily from cold. Is the exhaust at all smoky, especially when revved? Is it quiet inside the cab. Having someone with some engine know-how would be useful if you don't have much mechanical experience.

Open and Shut

Open and close everything inside and outside of the recreational vehicle you are interested in. Poke around and look for signs of water leakage in cupboards, around the toilet and so on. Do all of the RV doors and cupboard doors open and close properly (include the water, gas etc flaps as well)? Does everything switch on and off correctly?

Propane system

You may want to hire a specialist for these checks as they could make the difference between life and death. Look at the regulator and the propane lines, do they look in good condition or are they past there best? Is the tank storage area showing any signs of corrosion?

Warranties

Check with the RV dealer to find out what parts, if any are under warranty still and also that the warranty cards are still available.

There are of course many more checks that you could and need to do before satisfying yourself that this is a good used recreational vehicle to buy. This is not intended as a comprehensive checklist that will turn you into an expert buyer of RVs. This is for information only and we cannot accept any liability for your decision to buy and RV - you make your own mind up. It is up to you to decide whether the used recreational vehicle is both roadworthy and worth what you pay for it. The responsibility for buying lies with you and any experts that you might employ on your behalf.

Don't buy a lemon! Buy your dream RV with confidence - the recreational vehicle buyer's guide on DVD from http://www.ourdreamrv.com will show you what to look for and what to avoid.

Should You Buy A New Or Used Car?

If you own a second hand car which has an annoying habit of constantly breaking down, you would be forgiven for wondering if it would be better to splash out on a brand new one. After all, new cars traditionally come with a warranty which will cover the cost of any repairs that need doing, and you'll no doubt be treated to lots of other perks as well.

But there are downsides to owning a new car - not least the fact that their value decreases exceedingly quickly, literally beginning as soon as you drive it home. Perhaps it's this very fact that explains why so many more people buy used cars rather than new ones.

Before deciding whether new or used is the best route for you, it's a good idea to consider what you will use the car for. If you only want a small car to get to the shops and back, or to pick the kids up from school, the cost of buying a brand new car probably won't be worth it. A small run-around will be more than adequate.

However, if you drive to and from work on a daily basis, you'll be clocking up the miles in record time, and a new car will be more reliable than buying an older model. This is especially true if your work takes you from place to place; not only do you want something that performs well, you also want a car that will be comfortable and pleasant to travel in.

You also need to consider the monetary implications before deciding on a new or used car. Once you have narrowed your choice down to a few models, make sure you get some car insurance quotes to see what you will need to pay for insurance on a monthly basis. Prices can vary greatly between new and used models, and it's far better to know what to expect in advance than to buy an expensive car and find the insurance is more than you thought it might be.

A new car will have the benefit that there is no owner history to worry about. "One careful lady owner, non smoker" may be your ideal picture of the owner of that used car you've got your eye on, but the reality may be very different. If you buy the car from a dealer, you've got no idea how it has been treated beforehand, so be alert for any telltale signs of hard use, and take someone with you who knows a bit about cars if you feel unsure.

In essence, it's worth spending some time considering all the options before making a choice, as you could be driving your chosen car for a long time.

Enjoy a Gas Mileage Increase and Emission Reduction with these Proven Methods

With the recent rising oil prices, fuel costs can empty your wallet in a hurry. But luckily, there are some proven ways to enjoy a gas mileage increase and emission reduction for your automobile. These tips are easy to follow, but can make a big difference in how much you spend on gas every week.

Efficient Driving

Certain driving habits such as speeding, aggressive driving, and idling can cause your vehicle to use more gas than usual. When on the open highway, stay within the speed limits. Driving above 60 or flooring the pedal on a continuous basis will cause your vehicle to use more fuel. Avoid fast starts and stops and always drive gently.

Try to run errands all in one long trip instead of breaking them into several short trips. For instance, if you need to buy groceries and later you plan to drop by the bank or post office, try to do all three errands in one trip. Frequent short trips with cold engine starts can burn twice the gas. Hauling heavy objects can also decrease your car's gas mileage. Increase gas mileage by removing extra weight from the car, such as a trunk full of unnecessary items. When traveling for vacation, pack as lightly as possible. Excess weight of 100 pounds or more can decrease fuel economy by about two percent. Also for long trips, use cruise control when possible for a gas mileage increase and emission reduction.

Auto Maintenance for Better Gas Mileage

Proper maintenance on your car when needed is a tremendous gas saver. Tune your engine occasionally and keep your tires aligned and properly inflated at all times. These can improve gas mileage by about three percent. Also, change the oil regularly. If possible, opt for the oil labeled "energy conserving" to increase gas mileage and reduce emissions. Replace the air filters on a regular basis to enjoy up to a ten percent gas mileage improvement.

Octane Levels and Gas Mileage

When pumping gas, choose the octane level that's recommended for your car in the owner's manual. For most automobiles, regular gasoline is recommended. Buying the higher priced premium gasoline will not improve gas mileage or reduce emissions.

Fuel Savings with Additives

Certain fuel additives can help improve gas mileage and reduce emissions. Some fuel additives will increase engine performance by slowing the burning of short hydrocarbons in gasoline and by quickening the burning of longer hydrocarbons. This helps to eliminate pre and post ignition detonation, giving a more complete fuel burn at the spark on the power stroke. You can also combine a gas additive with an oil additive for even better results.

Though fuel savings are not drastic with each of these steps alone, combining these steps on a regular basis can make a big difference. You'll be able to enjoy a gas mileage increase and emission reduction without spending thousands of dollars on a new automobile.

Increasing Your Gas Mileage

Ever-increasing gas prices have led many people to try just about anything to increase the gas mileage of their vehicles. Print ads and TV infomercials hawking products "guaranteed" to increase your mileage by 20%, 30% or more abound. Do these products really work? Is there anything that can be done to increase the gas mileage of your car? Is it really possible to come out ahead at the pump?

The first thing to note is that there is no gadget or gas additive that has been proven. The EPA has tested over 100 different items from "mixture enhancers" to fuel line magnets. Most of these items showed no increase in fuel economy. The ones that showed any change at all showed only marginal increases. Popular Science magazine actually found that some of these items decreased fuel efficiency.

Your best bet is to keep your money in your pocket when it comes to mileage-enhancing items. The only person seeing a fatter wallet is the manufacturer. There are, however, proven ways that you can increase your fuel efficiency:

Drive Carefully - Aggressive driving can decrease your fuel economy by as much as 33%, according to the U.S. government's fuel economy website. Speeding, rapid acceleration and braking are all symptoms of aggressive driving. Drive carefully and sensibly, and you will spend less at the pump.

Observe The Posted Speed Limit - Speeding costs you big at the gas station. Gas mileage decreases dramatically at speeds over 60 miles per hour. Generally, you can figure that for each five miles per hour you drive over the speed limit, you are burning enough extra fuel that it equivalent to paying an additional twenty cents per gallon.

Lighten Up -Remove excess items from your car and trunk. For each 100 pounds of additional weight in your car, you can expect to lower your gas mileage by as much as 2%.

Inflate Your Tires - Properly inflating your tires increases fuel economy by an average of 5%. As an added benefit, your tires will wear more evenly and last longer, too.

Change Your Oil and Air Filter - Change your oil and air filter on the schedule recommended by your car's manufacturer (check you manual for this schedule). Keeping your oil clean means your engine doesn't have to work as hard, and less strain on the engine equates to better gas mileage. A dirty air filter is a sure-fire mileage killer. In fact, a dirty air filter can cause you to increase your gas usage by as much as 10%.

Tune Up Your Engine - Adhering to the recommended maintenance schedule improves gas mileage anywhere from 4%-10%. In addition, your car will run better and last longer.
Easy steps such as the ones outlined above can significantly impact your car's fuel efficiency. Driving properly and taking care of your vehicle will save you more money at the pump than any gadget or additive ever could.

Auto Repair Help - Repair Scam VS Auto Up-Sell

Do you need auto repair help? If you're like about 95% of Americans you don't know much about your car and you really don't want to. You want to wake up, turn the key, and have the car do what it's always done: drive to and from work. But on those gut-wrenching mornings when the car won't start, or there's an evil little light on the dash, we know it's time to telemarket the pros and hope we get a fair deal and not a sharp stick in the eye.

Now you're in the shop - They're looking at your car, charging you for it, and when they walk into the waiting room, wiping the grease off they're hands, how do you now the next sentence isn't a complete work of fiction?

Let's pause for a moment of clarity. Just what is an auto repair scam? We like to offer some auto repair help using this simple analogy... Going out to dinner.

Imagine walking into a restaurant any given night of the week. You're craving (let's say for sake of argument) a burger, fries and coke. You sit down, the waiter walks over and before taking your order tells you about the specials. They tell you about their tender sirloin tips, sautéed in a cabernet butter sauce served with garlic mashed potatoes and delectable grilled asparagus spears drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. Your mouth begins to water and you picture a glass of Shiraz washing it all down.

Fast forward about an hour. You're leaving full and happy having spent about $55 more than the original $12 you had planned on.Congratulations! You were just unsold.

Let's repeat this experience and this time explore a scam... You order the burger, fries and coke. The waiter brings you the carrot plate with an orange juice, charges you for the steak and then the valet refuses to give you your keys until you pay for the entire dinner including tip and a Saganaki you never even knew they served.

Now THAT is a scam.

The truly insidious problem with auto repair is how hard it can be to tell the difference. Unlike dinner, the inner workings of your transmission can be subject to interpretation.

The most powerful tool you have against auto repair scams: Stop using repair facilities who refuse to provide quality information over the phone or internet. We have a simple, hard and fast rule - If a mechanic is not knowledgeable enough to provide at least basic, quality information when I contact them initially; they are not knowledgeable enough to be working on a vehicle. Period.

Service writers and technicians need to understand the rest of the world lives in the information age. With the ability now for consumers to use free public resources (like IanAuto!) and get information to compare notes, mechanics must to stop chanting the old mantra "Can't tell you, won't tell you! Bring it in and we'll take a look".

You Need To Be Aware. You Are Not Helpless. You Do Have Choices The major reason for prescreening is failure to do so opens you up to a host of potential scams and creepy, high-pressure sales tactics.

How hard do you think it'll be to reverse a mistake when you're car is 6 feet in the air with the tires off and they're pointing out fictitious emergencies?

And if the person on the phone is doing nothing but evade your direct questions, just picture the customer service if you have a problem later on.

Remember, there are some amazing auto service pros out there who will blow your mind with knowledge, honesty and willingness to share. People like this should be given a medal for saving customers on a daily basis. The best thing is they're either a phone call our mouse click away!
Understanding A Very Important Fact: While you should never use a mechanic who will not provide honest, direct answers to your questions, you must also know they will have to take a look at your care to give a realistic, accurate estimate. The truth is almost 100% of auto repair related situations do require a physical inspection by a trained service professional. Cars are highly complex machines and a problem with one system can frequently effect the performance of another.

For example: Check Engine Lights. These little buggers pop on when there's an issue with a sensor buried in some deep, obscure system. We can all blame the manufacturers for not making this easy to diagnose. In situations like this there is no way to get around a systems test. You will have to bring in your vehicle, the technician will have to plug in a diagnostic tool and within about an hour (in most cases) you'll have a solid idea of what's wrong. But why can't the technician tell you that?

We have called hundreds of shops across the country and been hearing the same thing from close to 96% of them: "Nope, we can't tell you anything until we see it." Or "We don't give any information over the phone, you'll have to bring it in." We've heard these exact two sentences so many times at this point we're starting to think there's a mechanics phone call evasion phrase book!

Here's a response directly from our database: This is a shop who knows how to answer your questions, even when there is no direct answer...

The "check engine" light is an indication something is wrong somewhere in your vehicle. What it's saying is one or several sensors/components is failing or providing readings within specifications. Diagnosis and troubleshooting is required to determine the cause of the problem and this will allow us to provide an accurate estimate regarding exactly what needs to be fixed.
The cost for an initial diagnosis runs $X. You can expect the whole diagnosis process to take around an hour. Our technicians are trained to handle these problems and are available ASAP. Please call to set up an appointment. Now isn't that better than what "Nope. Can't say until you bring it in"?

The Most Astounding Fact Ever: Your answers are found in your mechanics questions. Even though having knowledge of your vehicle is the #1 way to avoid a scam, you can offset being less than informed by digging out good questions from the mechanic. There's a simple reason for this, it shows they know what they're talking about.

Because cars have become amazingly complex systems you should not expect to get a diagnosis over the phone or online. But you should expect information. When you call a shop, the person who picks up the phone should be able to tell you something about something. They should also be able to ask you enough questions to draw out info and further highlight their knowledge and professionalism. They should also disclose if they have an inspection fee, disclose if that fee will be waived if you approve the work, and then be courteous enough to ask for an appointment.

Brakes, engine trouble, weird smells and noises... in almost every auto repair related situation you must find a person who may not give you an exact answer, but will be able to tell you exactly why.

Bottom Line: An up-sell is offering premium parts instead of the basic stock, a scam is creating problems or lying about repairs needed. Scams can be avoided by finding a service pro who will directly address your questions and/or concerns. And while maybe not diagnosing your problem, at least offering quality information as to why.

How a Car Alarm Works

What Really Is A Car Alarm And How Does It Seem To Work Like It Does?
With this number of thefts each year, it is no wonder why car alarms are becoming a common item you get in new cars. There are sensors installed into the car that will set off the worst sounds you have ever heard in your life if someone tries to steal it. Most of the keys to start the car are now your remote control system to arm and disable your alarm. Your car will definitely be safe when you are away from it.

The alarm systems of today work in a particular way and provide you with protection in about the same way. Some alarms are very complicated to understand because of the technical advancements of it and others are so simple you can put them in yourself. Either way, be prepared for the thief stealing the cars to be able to figure this out and stop the alarm before it goes off. The basic alarm is a series of sensors installed that when triggered, will set off an alarm to deter whoever has malicious intent on taking your car. A simple alarm runs through the driver side door to sound off when it was opened. Simple installation of a switch, a few wires, and the siren part of the alarm is usually all that is required.

The more complicated alarms have a more involved installation to them and are usually best left to professionals. This is because the amount of sensors installed are not only run by a simple switch but now added to the mix is pressure sensitive sensors, and motion detection pieces. Instead of one simple siren sound, your system has more than one so you can customize it for your needs, a battery for only use with the alarm so it can still operate even if your car battery is disabled, and a computer that watches all of the goings on with the alarm and causes it to go off when something is not right. The most important part of these systems is the computer. It is not a large unit like you would think but very compact. This computer shuts down certain switches to the lights, siren, or horn when you disable the alarm. The particular alarm you choose will be different from another brand because they each choose their own types of switches and components they attach to the computer itself.

It is so important to use another source of power for your alarm because some of the time, your car's battery power may be cut by a thief. They think because they disable the regular battery connection to the alarm, it will be safe to steal. When there is another power battery hidden in the car, the alarm is still going to work. It would take them a few minutes to find the other source and thus it would take too long to be comfortable in knowing they will not get caught to steal the car. This extra power source also will set off the alarm if it is activated. This means when your primary battery source is cut or disabled, the alarm will sound.

The choice is really up to you. The more expensive the car, the more you need a better alarm. Each will range in price from under a hundred dollars to upwards of a thousand or more. When you decide to buy a vehicle, see if there is a way you can have one already installed in it. This will not only give you protection, it will be covered under the car's warranty. You might even get a break on your car insurance also.

How to Choose Your First Motorcycle

Leather accessories definitely look good on motorcycles and on the bikers as well. After all, leather accessories are perfect combinations of quality and fashion. These come in different colors and styles that could definitely suit your taste and personality. Although a leather jacket or any other leather accessory usually lasts for about 9 to 10 years, it still needs proper care and constant maintenance. Motorcycle accessories made from leather should be given the same attention as that of a cashmere sweater or silk fabric. These can be very sensitive once exposed to harsh elements such as weather, strong chemicals and more. Such occurrence might lead to color fading and leather cracks.

Common motorcycle leather accessories are tool pouches, tank panels, and saddle bags. You may also include leather boots, gloves and biker outfit on the list. These items should have a regular cleaning schedule to prevent their exterior from damage and to prolong the life of your leather accessories.

Here are some tips from motorcycle experts on how to maintain your motorcycle accessories made from leather:

1. Thoroughly vacuum your leather accessories first before cleaning. Be sure to blow off all the excess dirt before wiping the applicator pad with leather cleaners in it. This is to avoid leather scratches caused by coarse particles.

2. Use cleaners especially made for vinyl and leather. Tidy your leather at least once a week or more often if necessary. This would not only stop dirt build up but would prevent your motorcycle from looking old as well. Choose a leather cleaner that is not acidic or that does not contain alkaline. Acidic cleansers may cause your leather to dry.

3. Do not use detergents, bleaches or any regular soap in cleaning your leather hand grips, saddle bags and seats. This would easily dry the leather and would doff the oil that is needed to maintain that shiny coat.

4. Saddle soaps are not recommended for cleaning motorcycle accessories. A saddle soap is actually used as a leather tanner rather than a product for the maintenance of leather motorcycle accessories. Saddle soap contains high amount of alkaline that gradually damages the leather as well as the stitches binding it. If you want to buy a leather tanner, look for modern emulsions that have deep leather conditioning and have lasting moisturizers in them.

5. With the help of cloth and water or clean sponge, rinse your leather accessories thoroughly. After rinsing, let these dry slowly and completely before you use them again. Do not use blow dryers or any extra heat that would dry the leather quickly.

6. Once your motorcycle leather accessory is completely parched, you may put a small amount of leather restorer or conditioner. This would help maintain the supple look in your leather accessories. It moisturizes, nourishes, and prevents environmental leather pollutants from damaging the said material.

7. Motorcycle clothing such as chaps, pants and jackets are the usual outfit motorcycle riders or bikers use when aboard their favorite two-wheeled vehicle. Most of these outfits worn by motorcycle enthusiasts are also made from leather. In case you feel that your leather clothing is beginning to dry, apply a very small amount of petroleum jelly and wipe it all over the leather. Let it dry before using it again. Do not treat your leather clothing as if it is water resistant. Rain could wash the oil out of the leather and may eventually lead to a dry and cracked outfit.

Maintenance of your motorcycle leather accessories is very vital to keep it always in good shape. The more you clean your leather accessories, the longer you will be able to use it. Take proper care of your leather components to maintain a smooth-looking exterior and to enjoy the benefits of leather for more years to come.

Car Chrome Rims and Accessories

Wheels are an important component of an automobile. Cars would not run without them in the same way that wheels won't be what they are without the rims. In fact, many car owners who are very meticulous about the overall exterior beauty of their automobiles give a major consideration to the wheels. Some even go for the custom type for an authentic beauty to their treasured cars.

The rim is sometimes called the disc or spider. It is the one that you see in the center of a wheel where the tire is fitted. When choosing a wheel or rim, experts suggest picking the ones right for the purpose, type of vehicle, size or fit and conditions. Rims should fit perfectly the vehicle and should be properly installed to make the wheels function well.

Rims come in various diameter sizes beginning from 13 inches to the 26 inches to suit compact cars, the muscle type as well as the Asian utility and sports utility vehicles. The bigger the diameter of the rim, the heavier it will be and the lower the car looks. But of course, this aspect is preferred by car owners who go for physical beauty rather than function. Also, the bigger the rim diameter, a thinner tire is needed making it more expensive.

It is also a fact today that many car enthusiasts like custom wheels for their vehicles for a unique look. It's usually a dream for them to be able to own custom rims. This means changing the wheels from their original make which could affect the car's speedometer. Custom wheels normally have cast aluminum alloy or a steel rim with cast aluminum alloy spider.

Big rims on custom cars are a popular trend these days. Their sizes range from the 20-inch to the 28-inch and they are available in different colors as well. Sports utility vehicles (SUVs) look good with the 28-inch rims.

Car owners, though, must know the downsides to having big rims. Custom rims could change the automobile's gauge readings such as a wrong reading on the odometer. They can also result in what is called as an under steer to prevent the tires and fenders from coming into contact with each other. An important thing to keep in mind too is to avoid potholes, street gutters and furniture. The reason for this is that big rims have thinner tires which make them closer to the ground and susceptible to contact with potholes that could cause damage to the rims on a permanent basis.

And finally, car rim maintenance is truly vital in making it last long. Steel wheels can be cleaned using a wire brush and they can also be repainted. Spraying a degreaser is also good as it breaks down the grease and dirt. However, for a whiter and cleaner look, an all purpose cleaner combined with a little amino acid will do the trick especially for hard-to-reach areas. Make sure, though, that you remove the solution quickly after two minutes by spraying water on the rim using a high-pressure hose. Wipe it then and what you'll have is a shiny rim without fuss.

How To Choose The Right Automobile For Your Family

In this day and age most families could not fathom doing without the convenience of an automobile, which makes the buying process an important one. When attempting to choose the right car for your family, it's important to consider a variety of factors that will help to make sure your ride is a smooth one.

First and foremost, you will need to ensure that your family's automobile is a safe one. As a consumer, you can check the results of government crash test and/or safety ratings online or by asking your local dealership for further information. If purchasing an SUV, for instance, it may be especially important for you to consider the rollover capability. If you are like most, you will also find it beneficial to learn how the automobile held up in crash test ratings.

If you have children, interior space is likely to be a priority on your list of auto amenities. Whether it's storage space for toting sports equipment, musical instruments for band practice or just a little extra room for a special trip to the toy store, it's a good idea to consider comfort in terms of available space, movability and leg room.

Whether you are purchasing a new or used automobile, a warranty is an important consideration. New vehicles typically come with a manufacturer's warranty, while previously owned automobiles may have a portion of the manufacturer's warranty remaining or possibly even one that is offered directly from the dealership. If the original manufacturer's warranty has expired, there may be an option of purchasing an extended warranty from the manufacturer upon request. This is typically only available on newer model vehicles, but it is a consideration for those investing in a previously-owned ride.

If you purchase a used automobile, it's advisable to ask the seller for the VIN number and/or Carfax report. If the dealership or private owner doesn't have a Carfax report, you can obtain one yourself using the VIN number. This information is helpful in determining the vehicle's actual mileage, accident record, service or repair history and more. Additionally, a Carfax report can let you know whether or not the automobile has ever been involved in a recall and/or reported as stolen, both of which are important to know when choosing a vehicle for your family.

For new cars it is possible to request to see the invoice for the car, which will tell you how much the dealership had to pay for the vehicle at their wholesale cost. Many car dealers will bargain to a price within a thousand dollars or so of this invoice price if you negotiate with them. This of course doesn't apply to some companies like Saturn, which does business at sticker-price only.
Be aware that any "factory rebates" are technically reimbursements from the manufacturer, not the dealer. As such, it isn't entirely uncommon to be able to purchase a car for BELOW the invoice price if there are a lot of factory incentives available for the model car you are purchasing and the dealer is being particularly flexible on pricing.

Last but not least, the cost of operation for an automobile is a significant consideration when choosing the right vehicle for your family. Gas mileage and the cost of auto insurance are both important in terms of affordability. In general, an SUV uses more gasoline and will carry a higher cost of auto insurance. The age of an automobile also plays a role in the cost of auto insurance, which is typically more expensive on new vehicles than on earlier models.

Forklift safety

Safety in the workplace is paramount no matter what industry you are involved in. Safety reports show that in Australia for example, one worker was killed every month as a result of forklift operating.

Anyone that is planning on driving a forklift needs to know all about forklift safety. If you are looking for a job that entails driving a lift truck you are going to find out that if you are not aware of the safety that you have to practice for driving a lift then you will have to learn that first. You have to go through safety training as well as classes in order to operate a lift truck. Once you have gone through the class, taken a test, and passed it, then you will able to get your forklift certification or licenses.

For businesses that are planning to purchase a forklift it is important to know all about forklift safety and procedures. All drivers and other workers will need to know how to operate the lift in a safe way so that they will not injure themselves or anyone else, and for other workers, they will need to be aware of safety around a forklift.

When you are learning all about forklift safety, you will learn operational strategies as well as management strategies such as putting the stabilizer feet down on the ground while you are picking up a load. You also learn that if you need to carry a heavy load down a slope or hill that you do it in reverse. Something else that may sound familiar in a safety for forklifts class is to always wear your seatbelt, and make sure that when you are reversing that your forklift is beeping to warn others around you that you may not can see them. There should be floor plans of zones around the factory floor which are pedestrian free so the forklift driver is not concerned about people walking in those areas.

Forklift safety is not complicated and a lot of it really comes natural to anyone with common sense. However, policies and procedures must be put into place and everyone must know and follow these.

There is an old adage that says "Accidents don't just happen, they are caused" If you are given a safety book to follow when you are going through the course then studying it might be a good idea, so that you can pass the test with flying colors. Once you pass your safety test, you are given a certification or license that will legally allow you to operate a forklift.

Most places of business will insist that their employees become certified to drive a lift truck.
This means that they will have to go through the forklift safety course and pass it. Pay attention while you are taking this course, you just might learn something that you did not know.

Practicing safety while operating a lift or being around a forklift can save your life or someone else's.

Don't forget, if you see anyone operating a forklift in an unsafe manner be sure that you report them to the proper authorities.

Finding the Right Car Warranty Policy

Many of us have got used to buying car warranties at the same time as purchasing a new or second hand car. We may be better served by shopping around for a better car warranty deal.
Large car retailers and dealerships often charge a significantly higher price than independent car warranty companies. The reason that they do this is to try and make up for the fact that they are often selling the cars at discount prices.

If you want to get the best deal on a car warranty policy, then your best option is often to turn down the policy offered by the car retailer. There are plenty of independent companies offering policies online. You'll find that you'll be able to get a cheaper deal by shopping around.

Some consumers worry about buying a car warranty online because companies may seem to be less visible than large car retailers. There are often concerns expressed about whether the cover offered will be as comprehensive.

Fortunately, you'll find that it is perfectly possible to buy a comprehensive car warranty product online from reputable companies. In fact, when it comes to used cars, warranties offered online often cover considerably more than those available from your local car dealership.

The key is to take a close look at the policies on offer. While price will often be a key consideration for many buyers, you also need to be aware of exactly what is covered by any car warranty policy.

Always check to see what the excess level is set at. An otherwise appealing warranty can often be undermined by large excesses.

Similarly, you need to ensure that the cover that is being offered is right for your needs - if you have an in-car entertainment system, then you may find that it is not always covered as part of the extended warranty.

When it comes to buying a new or used car warranty online, you'll find that you can make some great savings. Just be sure to check the details of the policy before you buy.

Tips for Personalizing Your Car Audio System

If you're like many people with their own car, you no doubt like to personalize certain aspects of it's interior or exterior from time to time. From after-market alloy wheels to designer seat covers, personalization is something that most car owners do at some point to stamp their personality on their car and make it their own.

One of the most popular ways to tailor your cars specification to your driving and personal style is to add or customize the in-car audio system. Whether it is a new car or one bought second hand, many people make the decision to personalize the audio components in their car to reflect their personal tastes and enhance the quality of the music experience where possible. From simply adding a CD player to completely upgrading the sound system to a DVD audio visual entertainment package, there are a variety of options for most tastes and budgets.

Whilst there are numerous retail stores both on and off line that sell vast ranges of car audio equipment, to get the best value for your money, you may want to consider purchasing wholesale car audio equipment. Many people may believe that buying car audio products wholesale requires buying in quantity, but this is not always true. Through car audio wholesale companies you are able to purchase different car audio components to allow your car audio system perform at its maximum potential.

Unless you have purchased defective parts or just simply ordered the wrong parts for your audio system model, you shouldn't have any problems. To prevent this, ensure you have the precise specifications of your existing audio system together with exact details of any add-on components you wish to fit. Following this one very simple step will ensure that you receive the components that are right and compatible for your car audio system first time.

When looking to purchase car audio equipment from wholesale suppliers, a few things you may want to check on is the warranties or guarantees that are available as well as the exchange policy. This information can save you wasted time and money if you purchase defective parts or ones that are not compatible with your car or model of audio system.

Once you have received your car audio components all you need to do is have them installed correctly into your audio system. If you have the technical expertise to fit audio components you will save money and be sure of a good job but, first ensure that you are not invalidating any warranties by customizing the system yourself. Some manufacturers require that systems are fitted professionally to maintain the standard warranties. So to get the maximum potential from your customized system it is essential that they are installed correctly.

After the components are installed check out the performance of your newly personalized audio system, if results are satisfactory, you can add the car audio wholesale dealer to your list of reliable car audio dealers for any future improvements you might make.

Car Auctions- Options

If you decide to buy a used car, you have several options available to you. One of those options is either government or dealer auto auctions. Both these are great places to find a quality car for greatly reduced prices, sometimes as much as 90% off the cost of retail.

If you have a budget in mind, try to find out the true value of a car, and make sure it is in good condition, and you can find an awesome deal.

In case you are new to auto auctions, you may not know all of your options. You will probably think opening up the newspaper and finding listings is about the only way to do it, but there are several other ways to find and attend auto auctions.

You could do the newspaper method, go to the auction preview, scout out the cars you are interested in, research the cars online, and then go back the next day to make your bid. But there are other ways.

There are all sorts of listings online for live auto auctions in your area, and you will probably get a much better overview of what might be sold there than in the newspaper.

This is if you have decided on attending a live auto auction. You could if you wish complete the whole experience at home. If you attend an online auction, you never have to leave the comfort of your home.

Of course It depends on your preferences, but I think that an online auction would offer you much more versatility and resources at your fingertips to decide on the perfect car and price. If you use an online auction, you view and bid on the selection of cars without being there. You are not limited to a specific area this way, and you can also do research while you bid.

Quite Often the cars posted on these sites come with vehicle history reports, but you should investigate them even more before you make you decisions.

Whether you prefer to be there when you win the car or do it remotely, you should always research the cars that interest you as much as possible.

When going with online auctions, remember to be aware of the area it is being sold so as not to get bogged down with delivery costs.

With live auctions, always go to the preview in order to see the condition of the cars that are up for sale. I do not think you will be able to test drive them, but seeing them will at least eliminate cars with obvious problems. For more information go to http://www.webspawner.com/users/tonyccc/index.html

Buying A Used Car? Here Are Some Tips You Can Use.

Looking to buy a used car? If so, then you have come to the right place. This is a great article to use if you plan to buy used cars. There are many questions you may have when it comes to used car buying process. In this article I will answer to some of these questions and hopefully, make the used car buying process easier for you.

Successful used car buyers often are just as happy with their used car as new car buyers are with a new vehicle. Knowing as much as possible about your car and the prospective buyers can save you time and money. As a consumer, you have to be prepared to conduct due diligence before you buy used cars

This can seem like a daunting task. If you are planning to buy a used car in the future, here are several tips to make sure that the road to your new ride is a smooth one.

Other than a home, buying a car is one of the bigger purchases you're going to make. One of the largest benefits of buying a used car is that you can often get a great deal and in many cases, the car you buy may even be relatively new.

The first step is to decide the exact used car model you want to buy. There are many essential facts you should consider before buying your next car so you won't regret your decision for a moment afterwards.

The process of buying a used car can be time-consuming and stressful and it might be difficult to resist the urge to buy more expensive vehicle, especially when higher total price is hidden under "low" monthly payments.

I wouldn't recommend buying a car after an accident or after a major repair. Also, don't buy a car as soon as you see it and don't buy a car if it needs some "minor" repairs. If you are looking to buy a car online, search thousands of used cars for sale from Private and Trade sellers.

In addition, you have to take note that the price for a used vehicle is usually higher at a car dealership than if you were to purchase it directly from the owner. Because high mileage can decrease the selling price, some unscrupulous people practice odometer fraud.

Determine your asking price. Doing a little homework is your first step in deciding your asking price. Many people refer to Kelley Blue Book to find a range of price on used vehicles. You can certainly do so as well.

Car Auctions - How To Succeed

Have you ever heard of seized auto auctions? Have you ever wondered if there is an alternative to purchasing your next car through a dealer,or of someone getting a car at an incredible price, or wondered what happens to vehicles seized by the banks, police agencies or the government? Are you curious about what happens to pre-owned government vehicles? These vehicles are sold at auction;some at on site auctions and some at seized auto auctions. Buyers can get these cars for thousands less than retail and some starting at bids of $100.00.

If saving that kind of money is not a good enough reason to visit a seized auto auction then here are five more

1. Seized auto auctions are fun

Seized auto auctions can be a lot of fun. First there is the excitement of bidding for that car that you always wanted. Then there isthe thrill of getting your dream car at a dream price. You could even practice by guessing what the top bid will be and see how close you come. How much would you have saved

2. They provide peace of mind

It is very important for seized auto auction sites to maintain a good reputation. To this end many sites provide services suchas vehicle history reports for a small fee,or programs to protect buyers from fraud or misrepresentation. You may even be ableto check out the sellers rating if they have sold on that site before. There are also resources on how to purchase a car onlineand how to bid to your advantage

3. They save time and effort

Driving from dealership to dealership, or from private owner to private owner can waste a lot of your precious time and play havocwith your nerves. What if your schedule just does not give you the time to run around? With high gas prices who wants to do all that driving. With seized auto auctions you set your own schedule for research and can bid at home or during coffee break or lunch.

4. They help you stay on budget

A major problem faced buy most buyers is letting your emotions influence your buying decision. Something the average car dealer knows how to exploit. Seized auto auction sites protect you from the heat of bidding by allowing you to place a maximum bid level before starting the auction. This way you can only bid as much as you common sense will allow. That is as long as you do not letyour emotion decide the maximum bid to begin with.

5. That is where you get your car at a bargain price

Car auctions are one of the best places to get a great car at a bargain price. Thousands of cars, trucks and motorcycles end upin auctions. Many of these vehicles are in prime condition; being either repossessed by banks or law enforcement agencies,or pre-owned government vehicles. Many sites boast cars sold for savings as high as 90% of retail. While this is possible mostvehicles go for around wholesale or blue book value. Auto Repair Advertising - Stop Price Shoppers - Friends Don't Let Friends Do Coupons

Most of our auto repair shop clients have been in business for well over 10 years. The working assumption is they're then good at their job; that they provide quality auto repair service for consumers. I believe everyone can track the logic: Good work = stay in business.

Why is it then they're not as busy as they would like to be?

Or perhaps a better question would be: Would you change a flat tire with a spatula?

I certainly hope the answer is no. Because to change a tire with a spatula would be insane. It's the wrong tool for the wrong job. It would be like flipping pancakes with a tire iron or doing spinal surgery with a cantaloupe.

So why, in the name of all things holy, does auto repair advertising constantly resort to coupons?

When we interview shops for our program we always ask what they're currently doing to bring in new business. Well over 90% of the time they report some sort of coupon usage.

But what happens next blows our minds even more... they begin to rant about price shoppers.
Auto Repair Advertising Tip #1: Just Bought A House? Here's a Free Oil Change

Do you remember when you were a kid in school? What would you do if somebody offered you a cookie? They'd say "Here, eat this, it's good!"

What did you do? You looked at the cookie and instantly said "What'd you do to it? Did you drop it? What's wrong with it? If I eat this, are those 5 people behind you going to start laughing at me?"

You knew there was something wrong with that cookie. That's because Free is too good to be true. Welcome to what your customers think of your free oil change/tire rotation coupons. They know you put those out there to hook and drag them in. And they know you're going to try to up-sell them.

Even auto repair advertising firms selling these services admit they get the most customer complaints from auto repair shops and their "welcome to the neighborhood" free offers.

Customers expect a bate-and-switch. To them, handing them a free offer and then trying to sell them other services is just too much like going to a time-share meeting to get the free mini-TV.
The only thought in a persons head: "Just get through the presentation, say 'no', grab the prize and get the heck out of there!"

Beyond the fact using tactics like this breed mistrust; your shop is now paying for the privilege of loosing money with every car that comes through your front door.

Auto Repair Advertising Tip #1: Kill The Coupons.

There are 3 major reasons for the seeming overwhelming prevalence of "Price Shoppers":

1: True price shoppers account for 25-35% of every market anyway. There is no way to get away from them. If you have a business you will see price shoppers.

2: The overabundance of options combined with public perception. In most major cities consumers are able to find at least 23 service shops in line-of-sight. Combine this with the belief scams and rip-offs lay in wait behind every bay door... They think if they're going to get ripped off anyway why not go to the cheapest place?

3: Using coupons and offering discounts as advertising tools. Nothing attracts pure price shoppers than the call of a coupon. Moth. Flame. No other comparison.

If you wish to cut down on price shoppers you need to utilize information marketing rather than sales pitch/discount advertising.

The Perfect Comparison:

Coupon advertising is nothing more than panhandling. Conventional, status-quo techniques are the equivalent to standing on a street corner with a cup of pencils and a sign begging those who past to buy me, buy me, buy me.

The problem is not that it does not work some of the time, but rather the sheer volume of exposure and spending needed for a 'yes' is freakish.

Ask yourself this: even when this person does come in, are they really a good customer? They aren't in your shop because somebody said something good about you. They came because you're cheap.

Auto Repair Advertising - Price Shopper Quick Fix #1: Become An Info Resource
Stop using coupons and sending out free offer mailings. They breed mistrust, further perpetuate the negative industry stereotype and attract the exact sort of customer you don't want.

Start offering promos and services based around something which makes you stand out over your competition.

Auto Repair Advertising - Free, Powerful Promotion

In most markets your shop is frequented by over 65% women drivers. In just about 98% of these cases women feel they're being taken advantage of and/or being completely ripped off.
Why not do something to stop that?

What if you were to offer free sessions where women could come to your shop and you and you teach them about how to avoid problems before they start?

Who do you think would enjoy this? Women. Your customers. Everyone.

In order to spread the word you would have to create a quality press release and make sure every PTA group in your area got a copy.

Offer your time and information 100% free of charge. They don't even need to bring a car.
Teach them how to ask good questions, what to watch for, and answer anything they ask you. Don't even mention your prices, your services and/or the fact they're even in an auto repair facility. Sell nothing.

Do this 1x per month and you will find yourself so busy you'll have to double your staff.
Total Cost: $0. Total Effectiveness: Infinite

Such occurrence might lead to color fading and leather cracks.Common motorcycle leather accessories are tool pouches, tank panels, and saddle bags.

Rain could wash the oil out of the leather and may eventually lead to a dry and cracked outfit.Maintenance of your motorcycle leather accessories is very vital to keep it always in good shape. The more you clean your leather accessories, the longer you will be able to use it. Take proper care of your leather components to maintain a smooth-looking exterior and to enjoy the benefits of leather for more years to come.

Save Time And Money: Buy Auto Parts Online

It seems that no one has enough time these days, but deciding to buy auto parts online can make your life a little easier, and in some cases save you big bucks! There was a time when you needed to jump in your car or truck, and drive down to the auto-parts warehouse in search of the exact part you needed. Once you arrived there, you likely had to wait in line for a while, and when someone was finally available to help you, more often than not, it was an 18 year old who needed to go, "look in the back," to determine if they had the part you needed.

But the days of driving all over town searching for one specific auto part are just about over. In fact, those days are dead and gone. In the new millennium, locating and purchasing auto-parts is as easy as searching online from the comfort of your own PC. Some of the largest auto-parts mega-stores have gone online, developing huge and instantly searchable web sites that make finding and buying the parts you need a piece of cake.

For example, JC Whitney has put their entire auto-parts warehouse online. JCWhitney.com has an unbelievable selection of auto-parts available online -- everything from fan belts to rear ends; from tire air valves to complete body kits. They even carry parts for rare and antique vehicles, and the entire web site is instantly searchable. You don't have to waste time or reading a lot of pages to find out if they have what you want; simply enter the name of the auto part you need in their handy search function; in less than a second you will get a definite answer as to whether they have the part you need or not. The odds are they will have it, as JC Whitney has probably the most complete selection of auto-parts available anywhere.

Another online resource for auto-parts shopping is AutoZone. Just point your Web browser to AutoZone.com and you'll find a functional and varied web site that makes it easy to locate any car part imaginable. Additionally, AutoZone.com also has an car repair guide section, including information on installation, troubleshooting and general auto repair. Not every make and model is included in the guide section -- yet -- but they have an additional service where you can register your car and be provided with specifics for installing a wide variety of parts, from muffler and exhaust systems, to full body kits.

AutoZone also lists their 800-number on every page of the web site, and if you are uncomfortable purchasing online, you can locate exactly what you need, and then call their free 800-number to check out and buy your parts. The process is really quite simple and AutoZone's customer service is excellent.

Both of the above listed sites can save you an enormous amount of time locating and purchasing auto-parts. But buying auto parts online has another big advantage -- it cuts out the middleman. This can often mean big savings when shopping for auto-parts online. With no physical store to maintain and keep up, and only a handful of employees required to run the web site, the distributors cost per part goes way down, resulting in lower prices on many items. The bottom line is, when you buy auto parts online, you're saving both time and money.

Picking a Car

For many people, the process of buying a vehicle, whether it is new or used, is a nerve wracking experience. Vehicles are typically the second biggest purchase most people make, and it can be tough to decide which vehicle would be best for you with car salespeople try to hustle you.

The best way to ease your car buying anxiety is to do some research so you know generally what you want, which will save you, and the salespeople, a lot of frustration.

Needs Assessment

First, consider your current vehicle. What do you like and dislike about it, and why are you trading it? If you need better gas mileage, a lower mileage vehicle, want to reduce your payment, or to upgrade to something more stylish, keep that in the forefront of your mind, since that is essentially your goal for buying a different vehicle.

Also think about how you use this vehicle the majority of the time. There are a lot of people that use huge vans and SUVs for commuting because they wanted a large family vehicle for the one week out of the year they go on vacation. Considering the amount most people would save on payments and fuel costs if they had a midsize or economy car, they could probably afford to fly somewhere and have some money left over.

Your goals for trading, as well as the primary use of the vehicle, should help you determine whether you need a vehicle fit for seven plus sports equipment, a truck, or a sporty two door.

What Can you Afford?

After you know what type of vehicle you need and what you are trying to accomplish, next comes the most dreaded part of the equation, pricing.

Determining a rough trade value for your trade and getting financing from your bank or credit union will also give you an advantage, since you will not be dependent on the salespeople for credit or payment information. Remember, no matter what salespeople say, the price of the vehicle is what determines the payment; so if you can spend $300 a month on payments, ask your bank or credit union how much money they will loan on a car for $300 a month. This will protect you from spending more than you intended.

Visiting the Car Lot
Once you know what you are after, test driving vehicles will be much easier, and you can tell salespeople you are still in research mode, and not looking to buy today, if that is your plan.
When you do find a vehicle you like that accomplishes your goals, fits your needs, and is within your budget, there are just a few more things you should check out before you take it home. If it is a used vehicle, you should have it inspected by an independent mechanic to ensure there are no imminent problems on the horizon, and you should do a quick check on the insurance costs, either through a local source, or online through a provider like autoinsuranceratesdirect.com to ensure that your cost of ownership will be reasonable.

Mazda Auctions

If your favorite car is a Mazda, you're not alone. Mazda has made a big impact in the US and has claimed the loyalty of millions of car owners. From the 1960s when their first cars were shipped to American car dealers, they've earned a special place in the hearts of drivers.

In 1986, the RX7 was awarded "Import Car of the Year" and set a new speed record-just over 238 miles per hour. Mazda has continued to delight their fans with numerous accessories designed to enhance the driving experience as well as new makes and models, giving Mazda lovers a wide variety of choices.

Mazda was the first car manufacturer to offer an iPod module for all their cars and SUVs in 2007. Now you can charge and operate your iPod through your audio system. Other popular accessories include Sirius Satellite Radio, in-dash CD players, both single and 6 disc styles, minidisc players and the Phatbox digital media player.

One of the avenues available to Mazda fans to buy and sell their favorite car is through online car auctions. The biggest and best known car auction online is eBay Motors. While the temptation is great to save time and money by bidding online, and the savings can be quite impressive, there are a few tips you should know before jumping into bidding on that Mazda that's caught your eye. If you've never participated in a car auction online, these tips could save you money and keep you from getting scammed.

1. Regardless of whether you're looking for a Mazda in particular or just browsing to see what's available, look for auctions that offer as many pictures as possible. Since you're not able to see the car in person, it's important that the buyer show you the car from every angle, including the interior, the trunk area and the motor. Photos should be clear and taken close enough to show details.

2. Make sure the buyer provides the VIN. The Vehicle Identification Number will allow you check out the car's history. Get a CARFAX vehicle history report if possible. This will let you know if the car has been involved in a wreck or been flooded and other vital facts that could influence your decision.

3. Know beforehand how much you plan to spend. Too often people get caught up in the fever of bidding and wind up placing a bid before realizing it's more than what they can afford. If you place the winning bid, you're obligated to pay, so it's important to plan ahead of time what your top bid will be. If you lose the auction, don't dwell on it, just get busy and find another one more within your reach.

4. Consider the location of the Mazda or any other car you're bidding on when setting your high bid. Depending on where it's located, the cost of shipping may be great. Ideally you'll be able to find a car close enough to where you live that you can pick it up, but realistically that's not always possible.

5. Take note as to whether the seller has a reserve placed on the car. Not all sellers do this, but some will and what it means to you as the buyer is that the seller has a certain price that must be met before he will actually sell the car. Vehicles with a reserve will usually have a notice posted prominently to let prospective buyers know the seller has a reserve price on this car. If his reserve is not met, the seller has the option of selling it to the highest bidder anyway, or refusing to sell and re-listing it until his price is met.

6. Pay attention to the reputation of the seller. They all have a rating and it's usually a good idea to buy from a seller with high ratings and good feedback. Used car sales are open to fraud, so exercise caution. You should take as much care choosing a seller as you do selecting a car to bid on.

7. Think carefully before you click that bid button. All bids are considered legal and binding and if you win, you're legally obligated to fulfill your promise to purchase and failure to comply could result in a legal battle between you and the seller.

Shopping an online car auction is a great way to find the perfect Mazda and can be a lot of fun at the same time. Just keep in mind the tips I've shared. They can help make your online car auction experience a pleasant one with less stress and fewer headaches.

Looking for a great deal on a Mazda? Be sure to check out Mazda Auctions , where you'll find an ever-changing inventory of nothin' but Mazdas in every make and model you can imagine.
