Spring Time Is Coming : Clean Up Your Truck Or S.U.V. And Save Cash

It may be time to spruce up your truck, car or SUV. Perhaps the bird droppings this summer and fall have been hard on your SUV's finish. Perhaps you wish to you're your car. Or perhaps you are tired of the colour and just want a change of scenery. It is true that automotive vehicle painting can be quite expensive if you want to have a really great and proper paint job done. Sure there are third party get it out the door shops but is that what you want. It would be as if your new Toyota was badly damaged and the insurance company instead of writing it off wanted to patch it back together. Get the job done properly. Of course, you can find auto body shops that offer really cheap paint jobs. Your car is the image that you portray. Auto painting is one of the situations where you truly get what you pay for. Get your car painted properly. However there are preparatory steps that you can make which will reduce the cash outlay out of your pocket substantially.

A cheap paint job will look cheap. The shop will spend little time properly masking the areas that shouldn't have paint applied. You've probably seen a car where the trunk lock was painted; the formerly shiny chrome door handles were painted over; that is what you get when you elect to get really cheap auto painting.

However, you can get a great paint job and save money by doing some of the work yourself. About 86 % of the cost of auto painting is the preparation before paint is applied to the car. This offers you an opportunity to save money on your paint job if you don't mind doing some hard work.

When you visit the auto paint shop, ask what you can do to prepare the car and reduce the price of the painting. Many shops will reduce the price if you remove chrome parts in advance. They may reduce the price if you clean the surface and remove old silicone-based wax and grease. To do this, you purchase a good quality wax and grease remover and find a well-ventilated place to work. Don't perform this task in a closed garage because the fumes can be hazardous and disabling.

You can also remove old wax and grease using scrubbing pads or an abrasive household cleaner like Comet. Use a bit of caution with these procedures because it is really easy to scratch chrome or even glass.

Another step you may be able to perform yourself is the feathering of scratches and paint chips. These areas must be smoothed and evened out using sand paper. The initial sanding can be performed with 80 or 100 grit and change to finer and finer sand paper until the final sanding touches are done with 220 grit.

Ask the body shop if you can do some of the larger masking yourself. Masking is simply the process of placing painter's tape over areas that should not be painted. Some body shops will not guarantee the quality of paint if you mask the car or any part of it yourself, so be sure this will actually save you money without infringing on the paint guarantee.

Remember laddie it never hurts to ask. Your car is the best representation of ourselves and our self image that we carry around and present to others. Make sure that it is proper.

Exploring the Ins and Outs of Gasoline

As the prices of gas continues to rise in the 21st century, motorists are yearning for the days when the substance that powered their cars cost less than $1 or even closer to $2. The demand for this influential resource has been outweighing the supply long before war broke out in the Middle East. The constant consumption of regular, leaded, unleaded, and now diesel fuel has placed a huge strain on reserves, which has caused prices to reach new heights.

The elevated cost of gasoline has greatly impacted the United States, as well as the rest of the world. The current energy crisis has forced scientists to seek out innovative ways of supplying energy and has encouraged consumers to find other methods of preserving fuel, such as riding a bicycle to work or purchasing electric cars.

In the future, the use of gas alternatives may gain more attention, especially since the following methods are less damaging to the environment: biodiesel, biobutanol, hydrogen fuel, ethanol, and bioethanol.

Taking a Brief Look at Gas Prices

In September 2003, the price of standard crude oil was less than $25 per barrel and with the help of inflation adjustments - it remained below the mark since the middle of the 1980s. However, a chain of events over the past couple of years has caused the price to increase to more than $60 in August 2005 and exceed the $75-mark by the summer of 2006. In October 2007, a barrel of crude oil was $92. The start of 2008 only heightened the continued rise in prices, establishing several record highs, including an inflation-adjusted all-time peak of $103.05 per barrel in February 2008.

Different Kinds of Gasoline

A mixture of liquid hydrocarbons and crude oil undergo a distillation process in order to generate gasoline. Gas was invented during the late 1850s after crude oil was discovered and researchers were able to fine ways on how to use this material. Early types of gasoline were created as a byproduct of the process that made kerosene fuel for oil lamps. Since the internal combustion engine had yet to become a reality - the majority of early gasoline was tossed away because no one had a use for the substance.

Today, the United States offers a wide-range of gasoline types. Finished motor gasoline consists of a complicated mixture of volatile hydrocarbons and other additives that help power spark-ignition engines. Reformulated gas mostly uses methyl tertiary-butyle ether as an oxygenate with three different kinds. For example, the exclusive oxygenated reformulated gasoline is typical only during the wintertime throughout the New York City region where heavy carbon monoxide pollution is found.

Gasohol is often a combination of 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline mixture. Ethanol is a liquid that actually comes from the fermentation of some sugars located in agricultural crops or wood. However, the most widely available type is conventional gasoline, which has been designed to evaporate at a slower pace in hot temperatures, which creates less smog.

Overall, each type of gas (whether conventional, oxygenated, or reformulated) is available within three different grades: regular, midgrade, and premium. As a rule of thumb, premium gas offers an octane rating greater than 90, which contributes to its higher price per gallon.

The Lowdown on Gas Stations

With exorbitant prices, gas stations not only struggle to make a profit but to also find ways on how to entice consumers into purchasing their gas. Depending on the location of a gas station and company trend - a range of prices sees states like New Jersey and Missouri offering the lowest costs with California pushing the limits as of March 2008.

A couple of popular gas companies and stations within the United States and Canada include:

Chevron

Founded in 1879 in Pico Canyon, California - Chevron would grow to become the fifth largest global energy company - playing a major role in the oil and gas industry. Making great strides in exploration and production, Chevron is also responsible for Texaco found in Europe, United States and Latin America.

ExxonMobil

With a merger in 1999 that saw the combined power of three major companies - ExxonMobil is considered the world's largest company by revenue. The company also supports Exxon in the United States; Esse/Imperial Oil in Canada; and Mobil in the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand.

Husky

Founded in 1938 as Husky Refining, the company focuses on petroleum and gas. Employing close to 4,000 people - Husky is known as one of Canada's biggest energy companies - which supplies Husky and Mohawk-brand gas.

Petro Canada

Established in 1975 in Ottawa, Ontario, Petro Canada is known as the second-largest company associated with various gas operations. Petro gas stations also offers a loyalty program called Petro Points, where consumers receive credits for fuel, car repair and store purchases.

Conoco Phillips

A merger in 2002 saw Conoco and Phillips join forces to become one of the six "supermajor" oil companies in the world. The company is responsible for heading Conoco in the southeastern and central region of the United States, Phillips 66, and other international ventures.

Complete Your Mustangs Wheels With Center Caps

If you have already invested a large amount of money into a new set of custom wheels you want to make sure that you finish it off right with a nice set of center caps. Car enthusiasts look at every detail of a car. Do not spend a lot of money on your wheels and then not put a great set of center caps on your car just because you do not have the money or worse, you think nobody will notice. By doing that you should never even of purchased the wheels.

Center caps can be as unique or plain as you want. If you are doing restoration on a car then the stock caps are the way to go. The majority of car collectors want their cars to be as original as possible. If you do not care about that and its all about customizing then do the proper research on your car. Every Mustang will have different dimensions for its wheels and upgrading them will be easy. Many times you will see that the wheels you buy will come with a nice set of caps already.

Over the past fifteen years Ford has introduced a variety of very nice looking caps for the Mustang. The majority of them have the blue Ford logo and can be interchanged with a number of wheel sizes. The coolest center caps where put on the Mustang Cobra and Cobra R models. The snake head is truly a one of a kind logo. It does not matter what type of wheel you plan on putting them on they will make your wheel setup that much nicer. Ford produced a lot of these but you can also pick them up from aftermarket manufacturers. They come in black, red, blue, and silver colors.

If you like the classic Mustang look then I would suggest you look at the original Mustang design. It involves the MUstang in the background with the red, white, and blue horizintal stripes running through the center of the horse. Many of these will have the horse in a silver or white color with a black background.

The last avenue you can take would be to put spinner center caps on your wheels. Depending on how you want your car to look these look great on a wire wheel. Not that many Mustang owners put spinners on their cars because it does not have a performance look. If making you Mustang look different is the goal then you should pick up a set of those.

Mustang owners looking for a nice set of center caps or Bullitt Mustang Wheels should go to CustomMustangWheels.com.

Where Can I Find A GPS For My Car And What Should I Look Out For?

Where can I find a GPS for my car? If you are like a lot of people these days, you've been asking yourself that question. You want a GPS for your car, but don't know where to start. You have spent hours checking all the online GPS websites but are more confused than ever. So let's go over some of the GPS basics.

GPS stands for Global Positioning System. It is a technology that lets you quickly figure out where you are, anytime and anywhere. GPS consists of a number of dedicated satellites that were placed into space and allow anyone who has a GPS receiver to determine their position anywhere on the globe within just a few feet. The system was originally developed by the U.S. Department of Defense as a guidance and navigational tool, but is now being used in commercial and civil markets for transportation, mapping, surveying and rescue operations, and numerous other uses.

The use of GPS for navigation and mapping is a natural. With a GPS receiver on board, you're never lost. And you even know how fast you're going, what altitude you're at, and how long it's going to take to get to your destination. Many new cars come with GPS systems, and rental cars have had them for years to keep people from getting lost. While factory-integrated GPS systems in cars are still fairly expensive, you can pick up a standalone system from online GPS stores for amazingly little money.

But before you buy a GPS you first need to decide what type you need. For example, if you plan on using GPS both in your car and with a computer, you may want to buy a GPS receiver that wirelessly connects to a laptop or handheld computer via Bluetooth. The advantage of these small GPS "pucks" is that you can use them with more than one computer.

If you want flexibility, you may be interested in a handheld computer that comes with an integrated GPS receiver and works both as a Pocket PC and a GPS. Such systems often come bundled with a suction cup windshield mount. The advantage of a PDA/GPS combo is that you can also use it to listen to music, watch video, or even do email or browse the web if it has wireless communications capabilities.

If you're only interested in mapping, you want a dedicated GPS, one of those handy little gadgets that quickly and easily mount in any car and locate satellites within seconds. The advantage of dedicated GPS units is that their displays are landscape oriented, just like those of integrated units. Landscape makes it easier to see what's going on.

Once you have decided what type of GPS you want, you must make sure it is easy to use and operate. This is where it gets tricky, as even the best GPS websites do not always have full reviews of automotive GPS. Trust me, even though everyone uses the same maps, the difference between a good GPS and a mediocre one is huge. Fortunately, there are some GPS websites that do have fairly detailed reviews.

So how do you find a GPS online? And where do you find a GPS at the best price? Or even a used or refurbished one if cost is a priority? There are many ways, but personally, I've had good luck with auction sites. There are even some that specialize just on GPS!

7 Tips On Saving Fuel

Oil price is soaring and it certainly looks like it will not be staying at a constant price for long. I remembered last year around June, the price per litre of Shell 98 was around $1.70 SGD and just recently when I was refilling fuel. It costs about $2.12 SGD per litre; an increase of almost $0.40 SGD per litre. Not to mention that the price is still rising. There are a few alternatives that we can do.

1. To stop driving - for those who have been driving, you will be saying it's crazy! Cars are just like your legs; they carries you around places. However, what we can do is to try walking, cycling or hopping on a bus for short trips.

2. To change to hybrid car - this is one viable option where you can adopt and yet some were saying that it takes much more fuel to produce a hybrid car.

3. To change the way we drive - this is possibly the immediate option that we can adopt. By changing your driving habits you can improve fuel economy and there are many tips which you can use to start saving dollars and not pennies. Changing your habits and you'll see a substantial savings at the pump -- without the need for a new car.

Let us look at ways on how we can change our driving habits as well as tips on how we can save fuel. These tips not only help you to save fuel, but also help you to contribute your bit towards saving our planet.

Keep Your Tires Properly Inflated

Keeping the tires at the right pressure not only increase your safety while driving, it also promotes fuel efficiency. The PSI number at the side of your tires shows the maximum pressure of the tire and is not the proper inflation level for your car. Your vehicle manufacturer will list the recommended tire pressure in your owner's manual or a sticker on the doorjamb of the driver-side door. You will notice that if your tires are underinflated, you will experience the extra drag on your car and this translates to more fuel usage.

Follow the Recommended Maintenance

It is important to follow your car manufacturer's servicing recommendations. A vehicle that is well maintained means it will operate with greater efficiency. This not only improves your overall vehicle performance, but it will improve your fuel economy as well. Proper maintenance also means using the right octane gas and the recommended grade of motor oil. A fuel with a higher and inappropriate octane rating does not translate to more power. Using the recommended types for your vehicle will give you optimum fuel economy -- and can translate to more saving for you.

Avoid carrying excess weight

Heavier vehicles require more energy to move, so carrying around excess weight will also affect your mileage. Keeping your boot or back seat clear of unnecessary items can reduce weight to your vehicle and increase fuel efficiency.

Drive smoothly

Aggressive driving can use as much as a third more fuel, so avoid accelerating or braking too hard and keep steering smoothly. The fewer heavy brakings and flooring of the accelerator, the more fuel you save. It is important to plan your trip and to avoid the rush when driving. Always give yourself extra time to get to your destination and drive in a "steady and smooth" manner. This not only gets you safely to your destination, it also helps you to save fuel.

Use the Highest Gear Possible

Changing to a higher gear to match the speed of the car is the way to go. Lowest gear yields greatest power but translates to an increase in fuel consumption. To improve your fuel economy, drive in the highest gear possible when you are cruising at a steady speed, such as on the highway.

Use Cruise Control

Using cruise control can improve your gas mileage by helping you maintain a steady speed, but only if you are driving on mostly flat roads. However, if you are in hilly terrain, you should turn off cruise. It will try to keep you up to the speed you've set and will use a lot of extra gas downshifting to lower gears to accomplish this.

Avoid excess idling

When a car is idling, it is using fuel. Turning the engine off during idle periods can help you avoid burning excess fuel. If you are waiting for your kid outside the school or waiting to pick up someone, it is more efficient to turn the engine off while you wait and then restart the car. You will save fuel.

With these tips, you will not only drastically improve your fuel efficiency and saving money but also doing your bit for our planet.

Two Fuel Consumption Tips

Every time gas prices are raised our problems seem to rise with them, the more expensive gas means less trips or more money out of pocket. The seemingly ever increasing gasoline prices keep people on their tip-toes, since this not only affects how much you and your family travel but it will also modify your budget and the lifestyle, and when that is required, it is never good news.

Needless too say, with the recent rises gasoline prices, the things seem to get grayer and grayer for more and more people, unfortunately.

Yet, if you find yourself in such a situation what is the best thing to do, or what other choices do you have? In this article, I will discuss a few tips for such situations, but it is no secret that the main point of this is the reduction of your overall fuel consumption. By simply lowering the number of gallons you need every month you will find yourself with the same budget range.

The key points to doing these are:

-Unnecessary trips are simply out

Everybody loves going away for the weekend almost every weekend to chill out their tired brains because of those tiring work hours and annoying schedules. Sundays seem to be the main key to peace, quiet and relaxation.

However, in order to find that you need to take your car out for a ride, with your family or alone and start driving towards the nearest forest or canyon. Well, the bad news comes here, because fuel consumption can be seriously reduced by cutting these Sunday trips, or simply by lowering their frequency.

Yet, that does not mean you have to stay at home, you can go around with your bicycle and this way exercise a bit, or go to your friends or pick the bus to the nearest town and visit a whole new place and return in the evening. This will also change your horizons a bit because you will not always be in your own medium, but you will have to interact with others as well.

You can look around for other ways to go on trips as well; maybe your friends are organizing something next weekend. Another good tip based on this subject is to try to reduce the supermarket visits as much as you can. Try to make all your shopping trips in one day.

- How about going with the bus at work today

This means that if you can, and if it is in your way enough and really do not need the car at work, you can take the bus rather than consume your own fuel just to go to the office and back.

You can save that for the weekend if that is more valuable for you. Of course, things do are not the same for those that do not have their office near a bus station. However, there is always the car pool. Ask some of your colleague’s maybe you will find one willing to pick you up in the morning and leave you at home in the afternoon.

Electric Hybrid Car Modified To Get 180 MPG!

A Connecticut man has designed an invention that can make his Honda Insight perform at 100 miles per gallon, a hybrid electric automobile the company ceased making in 2006.

According to the EPA, the Insight should get 57 mpg. The gentleman's invention allows the driver to assume manual control over the automobile's gasoline-to-electric ratio to achieve increased fuel economy at around 10 percent to 20 percent on Insights. He estimated that he has sold to 60 Insight owners in the United States, England and Australia that now use the $750 system, and that there is a waiting list. The same fellow also invented a fifth wheel -- an electric wheel -- which drops down from the trunk of the car and this works to generate electricity to power the car.

That creation, which he is not selling, enables his car to run almost totally on electricity and can achieve 180 miles per gallon or higher when he drives slowly on level terrain, he said. Mr. Dabrowski added that he started modifying his Honda Insight about four years ago because he knew that the driver could perform a better job of monitoring the ratio between gasoline and electric that was monitored automatically by the vehicle's computer system. After all, he reasoned, the computer is unable to see the hills or traffic conditions up ahead. He said it is unlikely that the automobile industry to ever manufacture pure electric cars because of the financial impact of retooling an entire industry, slash oil industry revenues and have an impact on the repair and maintenance industry (electric cars need less) and all the related industries that electric cars don't need

The happy family here at Water4Gas give the gentleman from Connecticut credit for his creation and we salute any effective technology that contributes to us all being able to move the world in the direction of cleaner and more workable energy. The shortcoming with his system is two fold - Presently it only works on the one model and that electric hybrid, as with all electric hybrid cars, has a battery that needs to be replaced at great expense approximately every seven years or so.

In the mean time, WATER4GAS is sharing information for a fee which car owners can use in their garage or wherever to build a small gizmo which instills hydrogen into the gasoline/air mixture that their vehicle runs on. The process makes bite sized particles out of the ones that the system uses as fuel. So the engine gets to use a lot more of it. By doing this you can reasonably expect to improve your fuel economy by 12%. In reality though many are obtaining 30-50% improvement or even more. Those particles "musta" been pretty "blankin'" huge in some engines before. But with WATER4GAS they are made consumable so you can improve your fuel economy. It also helps make emissions substantially cleaner. This information has been purchased by over 9000 individuals already and happy members number about 99%! So that's pretty electric!

Gas Mileage Savings in Five Easy Steps

With today's high gas prices it's no wonder people are eager to find ways to achieve better gas mileage. The strain on our pocketbooks is heavy and sometimes relief seems no where in sight. The question is, unless we're able stroll into our local car dealer and plunk down the money for a hybrid vehicle, is there anything we can do? The short answer, yes.

Thankfully there are steps we can take with our existing vehicle that can help improve our gas mileage and save money in the process. There are many new products and technologies emerging in the marketplace that are geared toward fuel efficiency but for our discussion, lets stick with the normal, day to day habits we can easily change to improve our situation.

Here are five easy steps you can take that, although not revolutionary, can help to lower your monthly gas bill for your vehicle.

Step one: Don't fill up at a gas station located near a freeway. The prices are noticeably higher at these locations and while you may not think that ten cents more per gallon is much, if you do the math, it adds up over time. Keep a mental note of the gas stations you drive by to find the ones with the lowest prices. Chances are, they won't be located near a freeway. Once you find the cost-effective stations, visit them while you still have around a quarter of a tank. If you wait till the last minute when you're running on fumes, you may be forced to stop at one of the higher priced stations.

Step two: Get regular unleaded. Unless you have a high performance sports car do you really need the premium gasoline? Again, this is only around ten cents per gallon but once you do the math you'll find that it all adds up.

Step three: Repeat after me, the freeway is not a race track, I am not Jeff Gordon. If you're gunning it on the road and weaving incessantly, you're going to burn through your gas tank needlessly. My advice is to switch to decaf, listen to some classical music and drive like a normal human being. Your fellow drivers will thank you and you'll get far better gas mileage.

Step four: For short trips, take a bike. No gas used, you burn calories, it's a win-win situation.

Step five: Keep your vehicle regularly serviced. Oil changes, tune-ups, air filter changes - all are important maintenance aspects of your engine. A properly serviced vehicle will not only extend the life of you vehicle but will improve your gas mileage as well. You save money on gas, you save money on engine repair, not a bad combination.

I hope these five easy tips are helpful to anyone trying to stretch their dollar when it comes to filling up at the pump. Even though they are small steps, you're still saving money. Who knows, one day you may have saved enough to buy that hybrid and that's where the real savings begin.
